im looking to build a new i7 system as soon as i have the extra funds. but for now and time being im looking to upgrade my pci nvidia 5500 since some of my games lag to bad im looking for a agp card that is worth the upgrade but not expensive since im building new rig in next few mnths. here is my current rig amd athlon xp 2600+ cpu soyo dragon via kt600 motherboard 1gb ram 80gb hardrive nvidia 5500 pci 430watt powersupply
just need for speed battlefield call of duty and some others i was thinking of 7600gs or mabye a x1950 pro if i find one cheap enough a local shop near me have 6200agp 256mb for 50.00 but i didnt know how much improvement over my 5500
The top two cards are the Ati HD 3850 and HD 4670, (£83 retail) both of which I've had in the last year and both easily capable of playable framerates at 1440x900, but that's with my rig which is a bit punchier than yours. See if you can get a X1950, that was a pretty awesome card.
I wouldn't bother tbh, it's money literally flushed down the drain now PCI-e has total market domination. If you do decide to upgrade I'd grab a card 2nd hand rather than new, helps reduce the waste.
AGP is available but PCI-E Superseded it since 2005-06, now the part list is short. What directx is Compatible with AGP ? I Remember hummmm Directx 9 in 2005 with my Gforce 4 Ti 4800Se
DX9 is compatible and so is DX10, but in all honesty, replace the old mobo and grab yourself a decent PCI-E GPU.
Affirmative. You dont have to buy an Expensive CPU or the Biggest GPU but Plz For the grace of God Change your RIG
I would not bother with buying a new gfx card. Save your money to save up for a i7 system quicker. Or i would go on ebay and find a cheap thing as a stop gap, saves buying a new one only to get rid of it in a few months.
Recently i purchased an ATI 4650 AGP, and i thought it would be a breeze. Well its not when it comes to drivers. ATI catalyst for the 4000 series has no support for AGP products, ATI has a hotfix driver but it don't work. In the end i could only get the supplied driver on the disc to function under XP, so even with support for DX10 i cant make any use of it. Most pitiful IMO.
That's odd, the hotfix drivers have always worked on my 4670 AGP although I did have to install the latest version (9.11) manually as the provided installer is crap.
