some one please help me!!!! my gf4 Ti 4200 has a real real problem its almost to the point of catching fire. the stock fan died on me this morning so i grabbed a handy 60mm coolermaster fan from a cpu and chucked that on top (2x the size of the orignal gf4 fan) but i touch the reverse side of the cards GPU and Bugger me its hot to the point of blistering can someone help me/ give me and idea of how to solve this preferably without spending any money. The card is running at stock speeds and i dont plan on overclocking it The tools i have at my disposal are several 80mm fans and several 60mm fans plus a few old cpu heatsyncs and some arctiv silver 3. there must be an easy way to do this i know there is
No luck there just tried that idea and first problem was the fact that the heatsync gets in the way of big trasistor type things and the second is that if i trimmed it down a bit then it would still be too tall and touch the card under it any other ideas? or a cheap as chips alternative from the web would be ok as a mate is lending me a spare TNT2 yeah old and slow i know but what the hey. until im rich again next month itll have to do.
Just strap one of those beats to it... my 9600xt is really hot to the touch on the back with stock cooling
My 4200 is burning hot opposite of the core to, so it isn't just you, Once I get it back from abit (had to send it in for repair) I have one of those passive heatsinks (huge) and a thin 80mm fan for it. (not so passive now)
cheers guys. when i bought this pc off my m8 about a year ago i only paid 100 quid for the whole setup monitor incleded but there was always problems with the geforce. first proglem had was a nasty wirring noise which turned out to be the fan plate (the little bit they put on for decor) no this what the hell was he thinking buying it from "power colour" geez.at the moment ive just slammed a propper cpu fan on the top of the stock heatsync and that should do it for now. its outta date now so ill update in the near future if i can
this is link to a card very similar to mine but i have the 64 meg version my gf4 (almost) ans is there anyway i can tell if my card is getting too hot without touching it? like relics or the like.
I made a custom heatsink for my 9700 Pro out of an old Athlon XP 1800+ heatsink. I cut it about in half so it wouldn't take up more than one slot. It's got a lot of fins, a lot of surface area and is all aluminum. It's making very solid contact with the GPU using Arctic Silver 3, yet the top of the heatsink almost burns my finger. The top, the point that is the coolest. So yeah, you're not alone.
My multimeter came with a thermal probe, and I often have the side off the case, so it's easy to use that.
cheers guys for all the help. im definatly just going to update my choice of gfx card soon so at the moment i dont feel safe using my gf4 so ive reverted back to a good old tnt2 ultra for now until i can get a water block or new card. cheers again icarus
