I want to hook my aircon (which is only 20cm above my computer) up to my heatsink+Fan on the CPU, or i might even put a small box around the CPU and pump aircon into it. Do you think that would work. Anything i should look out for and how do you suggest i do it. I have a few ideas but i'm curious to whether it will work and what i should look out for. Thanks for any help or comments
'course it'll work, but the issue at hand is condensation. All that cold air and hot components around it - if moisture gets a chance, it'll become liquid. and liquid is bad. very bad.
I would guess you would be safe to pump cold air into the case as an intake. you should, if at all, only get condensation on the outside of the case then. Didnt zap have some kind of aircon on the front of his case? try www.zapwizard.com
You could possibly try to do a hermetic sealing sort of business like they do with phase change, couldn't you? Not positive if that's too terribly feasible, but its an idea.
feasable yes, pretty? no. Also, you're shooting supercooled air into a heatsink... it has to go somewhere.
you don't need any kind of hermetic seal - the condensation issue only arises where your cooling kit is colder than the ambient air. Since you will be cooling the air itself (in your AC unit) before it gets into the system, it will already have shed any excess water then. As fivecheebs says, if your room is warm and humid, and the aircon is powerful enough to cool the case below ambient, you may find condensation forming on the outside of the case.
