Hey all, some of you might know from my recent thread, I am making a wooden cude case. This will house my current ( soon to be old ) computer parts. This is a top view of the case, with parts detailed below. Here is what each is. 1. This is the PSU, it will be mounted vertically, so the left hand side compartment can be as small as possible it can be, with the fans in there. 2. This is the Hard Drive, this will also be mounted vertically to save space. The section you see in the middle is another panel of wood, with a hole cut in it to allow wires from the PSU and HDD to go to the other compartment, this is there to prevent heat from the PSU in particular getting to other components. 3. This is the motherboard, graphics card, cpu and other PCI cards area, I will most likely steal a back plate from an old case to make that part easier, although I have thought about mounting the motherboard horizontally, on the bottom of the case. Anyone have any thoughts on this? 4. This is the CD/DVD drive, and with a fan controller above it, to turn the fans down at night so I can sleep. What I want to know now, is where is the best place to put fans into this case. I will have 2 exhausts most likely on the top, 1 for each compartment, as I want to extract hot air out the top as heat rises blah blah. I want to to have at least 1 intake fan in the left compartment, but I cannot really figure out the best way for the right hand side compartment. Anyone have any suggestions? Do the CD ROM need cooling? All fans will be likely 80mm fans, although I can buy bigger if you have a good idea. Thank you if you have read this far, and I value your opinions greatly.
i would rethink pplaceing the fans on top unlesss you have intakes on the bottom. You will need to have an air flow that follows a path instead of just sucking air. You will see in most cases that the air flow goes from the front to the back often going through the heatsink and chipsets. Including these parts in your air flow would help keep your cpu temps to a reasonable level. Good luck
I see where you are coming from, if I had one fan infront of the HDD (2.) blowing in, how would I place a fan at the back near the PSU? Because the PSU would have to be right up against the edge if you know what I mean, so I can plug it in. But yeah, I think I have an idea for the right hand side, I think I will put one 80mm fan on the right hand side of the CD drives as you see them in the pic, and then have an extracting fan on the back which would blow over the CPU and maybe GFX. Would 2 fans be enough for this area?
