I actually like vodka neat. Has to be something good, like Russian Standard (not upper-class, but the best I've ever tried) and has to be ice-cold from the freezer. Lovely texture, it's like milk.
Boiled_Elephant. Invest in some genuinely good vodka. Really, treat yourself. Throw £30-40 on a bottle, stick it in the freezer, and then experience something you have not experienced yet if Russian Standard is the best vodka you've tried: namely, vodka that tastes good.
Russian Standard Platinum is one of the best vodka, and is better than several of the so called premium vodka like elit which is 3x the cost. An exception is Wyborowa Exquisit. For something more interesting I suggest Krupnik, Starka or Żubrówka (Poland)/ Brestskaya Zubravka (Belarus) if you can get it in your area.
Stoli elit is overpriced though - those guys ride on the famous name. RS platinum might be good, I've only tried the regular stuff, but it's decidedly mid-range. There are so many vodka's out there that have real taste, as opposed to just a harsh burn, or dull smoothness, that I think it's one of those really misunderstood drinks which requires a lot of money to be spent on it before people understand how awesome it can be. Which explains why I mostly drink beer. I can buy good beer for 1.5-2 times the price of piss, but good vodka is not cheap (for someone who consumes over three times the national average of alcohol).
Which is why I recommended what I have. None of them are plain old vodka, but not fruit flavored Swedish style either. With the exception of the Wyborowa Exquisit none of them are out of the mid price range, but are much nicer than a lot of the expensive over hyped 'premium' vodka. Speaking of Swedish, Renat is worth a try as well. Puts Absolut to shame.
Just like rum. It breaks my heart how many people have only ever tried Captain Morgan's with coke. The worst rum in the worst mixer
Captain is still better than Bacardi. Bacardi is only good as an accelerant. I don't go for rum often, but favor dark like Angostura 1824, Zacapa 23, Pyrat XO or Appleton Estate 21. If you like rum you should see if you can find some Cachaça and make some Caipirinha with it. Some decent ones are Canarinha, Casa Bucco, Anísio Santiago, and Cladionor.
Better way to do this one is half shot Cointreau other half Drambuie then dropped into red bull. Tastes much better
Is it bad that I've never ever tried rum?... Also, has anyone got any mixes of drinks they made up themselves?.. And Brawl, whats the mixture of this 40k inspired drink?
My tipples of choice at the moment are : Beer : Stella / Weihenstephan Hefe Weiss Try adding a slice of lemon to the Weihenstephan Hefe Weiss, you won't regret it. whisky : Ardbeg 10yo (smoky/peaty) / Glenlivet (nice highland malt) / Edradour (many different expressions)
Here's a made up shot for you. This was served at the local metal pub as a "Global killer": Tequila/Stroh80/Absinthe. Feel your brain cells die.
Only a brummie could say concoctions to them self and come up with "concuctions". Anyway, you want to be a proper grown up drinker then don't throw coke in everything. Buy a book of cocktails and make them (warning, this can get expensive). Otherwise, drink things the way they were intended to be drunk (generally straight out of teh bottle).
Classic cocktails you should be trying: Daiquiri (strawberry or whatever is your preference) Vodka Martini Mojito (win) Singapore Sling Margarita G&T
Decided to try Skittles Vodka last night. Only did one flavor as experiment and wow that was good. I used Absolut with orange Skittles and mixed it with Sprite. I'm not feeling so great this morning.
[some of these were] posted in an earlier post but i'll post them again: Four Horsemen 1 shot of each of the following [in order] Jack Daniels Jim Beam Johnny Walker [the cheapest one... i wouldn't go wasting one of the more expensive ones on this] then *either*, depending on personal preference: Jose Cuervo *or* Jamesons ??? [this does have a name... I just can't remember it] Cider and Calvados [or other apple brandy] mixed, usually 50/50 but alter as preference dictates.. Zombie there's tons of different recepies for this... in short it's 1 of each rum [light, golden and dark], fruit juice of some description and some overproof rum floated on the top. Sit back and drink until you resemble the name
