But that just sounds like the original AvP except for crouch is now toggle instead of hold?

Although, if that is the system, then I can definitely live with that.

From what I remember, you can run continuously over surfaces by just holding the wall mount button, but by default if you run into a wall you'll just stop. You can tap the button to just mount one wall and stay on that too.

I don't know about jump points - will find out for the review though - but I couldn't personally get the knack of running into vents when I previewed the game.

Love to do the single player campaign with a friend like co-op mode. Is that going to be possible?

Need to drag up the issue of DRM for the PC version. Will it use any? I promise you, if it has securom or any system that makes you register a serial number then I will not be paying any money for this game. Steam is ok, but since it's tied to the account I will wait until it's cheap. Like £3.74 which is how much I paid for battlefield 2 :D

    No campaign co-op.

If you're not paying for it you shouldn't be playing it.

Consider how long you waited for Battlefield 2 then...

Already pre-ordered and i don't normally do that for games i haven't seen reviewed :)

Looks like it may be worth it though. Will be interesting to see how the touted DX11 features impact both the visual quality and performance on the PC version too,

Thanks for the info! Much appreciate you replying. I don't have any problem with adding new ways of doing things, just so long as there is a choice! Being forced to jump everywhere using markers would be majorly ****. I don't have any trouble getting in to vents at the moment, but that could always change in AsVP. Hopefully the developers saw fit to bless us with choices.

It's still available for cheap pre-order at Amazon

Not bad at under £18 quid.

IIRC didn't someone mod co-op into the campaign of the '99 PC version?

Not that it matters, pre-ordered and can't wait.

I've already pre-ordered the PC version off Play.com - was quite cheap at £17.99. As I'm a huge fan of the second game and the orig films (not the recent rubbish) I thought I'd make a rare (for me) brand new purchase as I normally wait for a few months for games to reach the bargain bin :p

Why is no one talking about AVP2, i thought it was amazing and added alot to the predator gameplay with more weapons and the double jump. I understand it wasnt made by rebellion but it was a great sequal to AVP! Has it just been swept under the rug???

I cant deny im disapointed that the alien has been slowed and you the wall running mechanism has been changed. It gets my goat that games are getting easier and you have the ability to quick-save every 2 seconds, then people complain they complete games in 6 hours.

Rant over.... i have actually preordered this so i'll try to reserve judgement!

The one were the aliens where all green and insect like? Heck no. I agree the story was more structured but still the application of the Lithtech engine (NOLF) was horrid in my opinion.

The multi was also interesting with the aliens life cycle implementation but still it was one of the crappiest portrayals of the AvP universes ever. Can't compare it with the atmosphere from the first one.

Monolith are one of my favourite developers and I actually love the lithtech engine, but AVP2 just didn't have as much character IMHO.

well i know that a few of us in my clan will be getting this so will be interesting to see if clan support is as good as it looks in BFBC2. apart from that cannot wait for this game, but when am i supposed to find the time to play the damn thing?! (L4D2, dragon age, ME2, BFBC2)

So the Alien wall running mode is identical to the first game then? As in normally you just run along the floor, but press Crouch/Wall Run Key and you stick to whatever wall you run up/along/over?

I'm struggling to see how it's different in any way...

Shame they've slowed the Alien down, although the guided jumps (if integrated seemlessly) isn't really a bad thing IMO. If you're aiming to jump into an air vent, where's the fun in missing? The only problem will be if it reduces your freedom too much (i.e. you want to run along the vent, but the system pushes you into it), or if it enables totally over-the-top super jumps just to amuse console players.

I loved playing as the Alien but I never quite mastered all the techniques, especially the crouch, look-straight-up super-jump. I just never managed to use it effecitvely in game.

From the sounds of it, you can play it just like you used to (just holding down crouch), or you can slow things down a bit by pushing the button just once whenever you want to go to a new surface. This way you are not going to just get lost and give yourself a headache if you don't know what you're doing.

Am agreeing with you on this one. Looks like all games are now developed especially for consoles and lazy ports seem to reach us PC users.
BFBC2 is about 5 steps backwards from BF2.

I will reserve judgement on this Aliens game until I have tried it but do not hold out much hope of it being any good.

Just confirmed: There's a toggle for the alien. You can have auto-transition, or a button to do it.

not to hijack but have you played BFBC2? its looking really rather good. stuff like FOV is going to be adjustable eventually too, optimisations are coming. its DX11 for christs sake how can it be a port? yes there are some things that feel a little consoley. but the menus work, i have a server browser and it runs ok for a beta.

Its more focused than BF2, but then personally i dont enjoy having to run for ten minutes before i find an enemy, and then missing him because they never patched the netcode properly.
