hi guys, I was just wondring is't true that Alienware laptop's are the only laptop brand that you can reopen it and upgrade the motherboard???.....waiting for your thoughts... cheers
to me being able to change the motherbaord defeats the purpose of selling your own brand of board tbh. I know some of their models if not all of them allow you to change the video card.... or maybe thats the dell xps laptop..
alienware allows you to change the videocard. i don't think the motherboard is swapable (with any degree of ease anyway).
you sir have just admitted being duped by advertising...well done! ^^^ Alienware make middle of the road laptops in posh casing.. take a look around at other offerings before spending a third more than you need to!
An Area-51m 7700 (for example), with: 17" Widescreen SXGA+ P4 3.4ghz (550J w/ HT Technology + 1MB cache) 1GB Dual Channel PC-4200 DDR 2 256MB nVidia GeForce GO 6800 + 2x 60GB (7200rpm/8MB cache) in RAID 0 is "middle of the road" is it
yeah middle of the road. If you like the pricetag its your money. You can get a diff brand with a new 7800 go for less than one of their craptops
I'm not disputing the price tag? Forget price! I'm disputing the fact he's said [and you obviously agree] that a laptop with specs like that is "middle of the road" For goodness sake... a desktop with specs like that is far from "middle of the road", never mind a laptop
a desktop with that spec is middle of the road... dell do something like that in their current offers flyer (with out the RAID option). Alienware are an overpriced under-specced company.
^ truf to that last statment. True they look pimp as hell, but c'mon is it really worth it when you can mod your case and have something you can really be proud of?
Actually they are quite high end, just not the HIGHEST end. You can get more powerful laptops, but not by much. Now here is the big difference would be the price. I hate alienware simply because they charge an extra 20%-40% MORE THEN MOST COMPANIES simply because of the name. Sure they have good support, and sure they have a big name, but think how much more buisness they would be getting if they charges 5%-10% more for the name...
iBook Cheesecake! Personally I think the reason I would go for an Alienware is for the kudos, the (apparent) reliability, and the support. Spec wise, I think it's been proven to death you can get the same or even better for far less.
TBH I think you're wrong. Alienware make pretty good laptops, as that spec clearly demonstrates. If you want to know if its good FOR THE MONEY then you're asking a different question, but a spec like that iI would consider a high-end laptop. Maybe not as good as Dell's XPS2 tho (For the price... )
I can say for the kudos. Majority of PC gamers aren't 'techie folks' thankfully, and so don't get snobby about someones choice of computer. Hence the reason why Alienware do very nicely from all the people that just want a pretty looking computer that's been well put together. I ain't arguing that Alienware make mint computers, but they are capable of making some really nicely made, well supported machines.
