Hi folks, I've searched the forums and could only find info on reusing laptop screens for various projects. I don't have much experience with working on computers, so hopefully I'm able to clearly deliver my questions. I've broken the screen on my all in one computer. I hope to be able to use the computer with and external monitor/tv. I have a Sony VGC-RT150 (hxxp://store.sony.com/p/VGC-RT150Y/en/p/VGCRT150Y#specifications , hxxp://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/model-home.pl?mdl=VGC-RT150Y , hxxp://www.docs.sony.com/release/SPECS/VGCRT150Y_mksp.pdf). I've located the video cable to the lcd panel and it looks like this. This is from the board. What kind/name of connector is this? hxxp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v218/collieman/IMAG0520.jpg The lcd video cable hxxp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v218/collieman/IMAG0521.jpg The monitor/tv I have is a Sony Bravia KDL-40S3000 (hxxp://esupport.sony.com/perl/model-home.pl?mdl=KDL40S3000). If this is possible? If so, how? Again, I'm new to dealing with computers, so any detailed info would be great! Thanks for taking the time reading this post. Any help is much appreciated.
Hi and welcome to the forums. Looking at the links you provided it looks like the best way to connect the pc to the tv is via a HDMI cable. The connector on the images is how the display connects to the internals of the pc and you would most likely need an exact replacement screen to make it work. Hope this helps. Krishan
Thanks for the response Krishan. The screen is pretty expensive, so I might salvage the drives and memory for future use. I was hoping to find a way to install a video out put from the internals. That way I would be able to connect an external monitor to new out put vga, hdmi, or whatever is possible. The computer has a few different type of outputs. In order to use them, you have to change the display settings which I can't see because of the broken screen. The keyboard does not have the fn function to switch monitors like laptops do.
It should automatically be in "clone" mode when you connect an external screen. Have you tried it? Failing that, you should be able to use the keyboard to navigate through the display settings dialog using Tab, Shift+Tab, Enter and Space. Do it with another computer next to it so you can almost see what you're doing.
