I did something very stupid the other day. I decided to cut some holes in my case, while leaving the components inside. Lazy of course. But I covered everything with paper and such so that nothing would get to anything. So I cut my holes and all was well. I then decided to put everything back and get online for some stuff. Whoops, no boot. The computer would not boot. The fans would spin but thats it, even the keyboard never got power. After troubleshooting for a bit I noticed a small piece of metal inside one of the small holes in a memory slot. Im talking wicked small. The size of the tip of a pencil!! I thought, "It can't be that...". I got a paper clip and finally got it out. I put hit the power button and...VOILA. Boot with no problem. Although the bios did have to reset. Other than that everything was great. So the lesson: NEVER drill or cut into a case with components even if you cover everything. Even the SMALLEST piece that gets in can kill the mobo.
What he said. When you're modding you case, and you still want to work with your PC, the best thing you can do is get another "auxiliary" case, or just a ghetto setup.
wow, your very lucky. when im modding cases i always put the components in another case and dont put them back till the mod is completely finished, it prevents stuff like this from happening to me.
Wow, what a stupid thing to do! Lucky its ok tho haha, must admit ive been tempted to just leave everything inside while cutting it but decided against.
Its all about laziness and impatience. I learned my lesson big time. Working on my next mod now and lets just say there is NOTHING inside of it. And there will not be until its finished.
i just throw it all over my desk, better yet, i just leave it in the box and use my laptop, that way i dont even risk using it ghetto stylee! never, ever, ever, mod with the pc in the case, there are too many variables that can absolutely screw your pc!
I've done it twice, got away with it both times The trick is to use duck tape, sticky side up. It catches the filings and keeps them in place. Not that I'd advise it, but some of us are lazy
when i want to clean a piece of metal (normally a side panel or something) i use a paper towel or cloth and wet it a bit and wipe it off, works good because it cleans the metal and cleans it.
