helloo I have just brought Alpha Pal 8045, and a Zalman ZM-NB47J Northbridge heatsink. Will the Alpha Pal 8045 be ok with my o/c to 2.2ghz (3200xp)? I have heard that its a very good cooler but want to check. Also do you think I should change them both a the same time or just do the northbridge then the alpha? Thanks EDIT: Just to let you know I have already o/c my barton 2500 to 2.2ghz on the stock heatsink.
depends what fan you're putting on it. I had a 43CFM fan on my Alpha running full whack to cool my Barton @ 2450Mhz 1.95v
I was thinking of putting one of my "quite" Antec fans on it. I think they put out 30cfm. Think this will be alright for it at stock speeds? If the stock hsf can get 2.2ghz think I will be able to on the alpha?
30cfm is more than enough. I'm using an Alpha Pal 8045 with a 25cfm fan. I've overclocked my 2400+ quite high with 1.85v core and the temps weren't above 50C
If you have the time and the patience it might be better to do one at a time. If it doesnt go totally to plan then it will be easier to find out why. would be good maybe if you could fit the nb sink and the alpha mounting posts in one go to save getting the mobo in and out. thinking about it though - theres not much chance of fitting the stock heatsink AND the posts at the same time
kool I think I will install the new nb heatsink first run it for a day then put the new alpha in. Then hope the alpha is good and keeps my cpu cool
i used my AlphaPAL to cool my xp2400+ right up to 2.175 volts lol. althought i did have a 45cfm ys-tech on top, a 90cfm 120mm papst fan pointing at it and a 12" desk fan poviding further airflow lol. temps were 55 idle lol
ts ts ts... both should be locked in a cupboard... im quite impressed how much the alpha is still bein used...pity its getting hard to get one these days...even ocs have stopped doing them...
thats what ive used my alpha for...nice and silent operation, but the part where the alpha really shows how good a heatsink it is, is when you start overclocking so i guess that is what most people would use one for... bigZ, olv, nice testbeds! true getto with the overly large fan!!!
Alpha here as well, 1800@ 2.09ghz, 1.59v currently 36°C ldle, with 27 case temp, 40°C load.... panaflo 40 odd cfm fan. temp rises to 40 idle/45 load with fan on 7v... its a great sink with lower airflow fans, and looks nice as well
Is that true? I bought a PAL 8045 four years ago now, and it worked very well. I particualrly liked the way it mounted, and it's seemingly simple and bomproof operation. It also comes in a nice quality box (more important than most people realise in my opinion), and has the mounting hardware and a installation guide included. I had an 80mm YS Tech fan on it, which wasn't too noisy, and temps were quuite good (I didn't even bother with case fans). I'm sure that if you get decent performing quietish fans that you'll be happy with it. I stopped using mine about two years after I bought it because I started watercooling, but I would more than likely use it again if I simply wanted air cooling again. They're not cheap though. £40, I think + a fan (you can probably get it cheaper if you shop). Then again, when you take it out of the box, you see where your money went. The thing oozes quality way more than any other heatsink I've had. They all just seem to be cheap plastic in comparisson.
Yeah its kinda something before I go to watercooling. Good watercooling costs big £££$$$€€€€€ which at the moment I don't have. I got the alpha for £22 including postage of the sales forum scooby snacks
