Im just after a shakedown of the main differences between these 2 and the Tbred/Barton?

I understand the Athlon 64 is 754pins, Operton is 940pins and the operton has 3x as many hypertransport links then athlon 64, but i just dont get where it all comes in?! If operton is a "server solution" why do so many people want one?? nobody want itainiums and quite understandably!

Im so out of touch on the AMD side these days. :sigh:

afaik the opteron has more cache
    dual mem controllers
    extra hypertransport links

i think its because of the extra mem bandwidth they offer? not sure really
i cant afford one anyway :(

Look for some of zapwizards threads, hes pretty well explained them all (search for block diagrams) I think he iincluded them in one of his replies.

dual 64 bit mem versus single 128 bit
    Hypertransport links
    cache

I think those are the main differences.
