I recently agreed to purchase some Lego from/on a facebook group, so I contacted the seller via PM, asked for the cost of postage and payment details; he took ages to reply but eventually came back with apologies as he had had "phone issues", but that if i sent him my address he'd put the sets in the post and send me a total including postage. A few days later the sets turned up out of the blue (he hadnt messaged to say he'd posted them) so i messaged him to say thanks and that i'd received the sets, and again asking for a total and payment details. He has yet to respond, and the message is not showing as seen; its now coming up to a week since i received the sets. Is it possible that this is some sort of scam? He does have my address after all?
Maybe they just have something going on at the moment, real life happens to all of us at times, however much we don’t want it to!
Thats my suspicion. I'll message him next week if i havent heard from him. Mainly posted this to check, as i wasnt aware of a technique like this being used to scam...
I suppose they could have something illegal sent to your address in the future and use the 'sorry I've sent something to you by mistake, could you send it back to me?" story. Seems highly unlikely though and I'm not entirely sure what they gain from it!
I had that happen to me on FaceBook market place with a couple of Samsung SSD's. Agreed to buy two. It took ages for the seller to respond to me and let me know how much postage would be (wouldn't be much SSD's weigh naff all as we know) and like the op they were posted, eventually. To be fair I forgot I'd even agreed to buy them as I thought the seller had either sold them locally or just decided it wasn't worth the hassle. I dropped him a message when they came to say, Hey I've got the SSD's can I have some payment details please for £43.28 (£40 for the drives and the £3.28 for the postage). The seller hasn't responded. I bought the drives at the end of November and to this day I haven't paid for them. I tried more than once and I've just been ignored. I'm really not going to loose any sleep over £43.28 as I shoved that into my savings account. If, which I highly doubt, the seller ever contacts me about payment for the drives I've got the money to pay. I've come to the conclusion this chap has been perma banned from FaceBook or has deleted his account and had forgotten he'd posted me the two drives. People are just plain weird.
....and he's contacted me saying last week was manic. a) not a scam b) dang, was almost hoping i'd get them for free
I have a friend who in 2010 or aroundabouts, bought loads of stuff from some dude for his car. Was all quite expensive, he bought like thousands of pounds worth of stuff from them. They posted it, and he asked about payment, and the dude then never appeared again on the forum he was on. I remember asking about it every week until it became a distant memory. Assumed he died, or something I guess.
That's really sad. But more frustratingly, I'm in a line of work where it can happen the other way around: a lot of my customers are in their 80s or older, and inevitably I lose one or two a year to the inexorable forces of time. Occasionally that happens just after I've done a job for them, or while I still have their computer. Gets awkward.
