Basically been upgrading bits and pieces of my system since I’ve had it, but I went to try a "demo" copy of Assassins creed, checked my specs and found I couldn’t even play it on min. :(

    450 Tagan
    S939 4200+
    ASUS A8N SLI Deluxe
    XFX 6600GT

2 x 512 Coirsair XMS Pro (with stupid lights :))
    2 x 512 Coirsair Value RAM

    500 Seagate SATA2
    200 Seagate SATA
    160 WD My Book

My question is really is it worth getting something like the 8800GT/S or is my system really too limited by its other spec?

I've been running a fairly similar spec swap your chip for an 4600x2 and your gfx for an old 8800gts and your there. I can run crysis on mostly high about 30fps with little lag. I'm pretty sure it's cpu limited but for £150 it'll keep you going for another year or so then when you do have to upgrade the base system you've got a half decent graphics card.

For £150 you could get a cheap c2d and motherboard, sell on the bits you have and upgrade from there.

new graphics card. you need one any way, so even if you do want to go core 2 duo later on you can just stick the new card in.

    jobs a goodun.

You could try to get a cheap 8800GTS 320/640 mb of ebay, it will be much cheaper than a new card, and less bottlenecked by your system.
