Re OP, I was trying to work out why I feel differently about these protests. I think it's because to a large extent what is going on is not a funeral. It is an extended ceremonial transition of (albeit largely ceremonial) power. It is intrinsically linked to the structure of our governance so I don't think it should be isolated from protest and public criticism in the same way one might expect a private/personal funeral ceremony to be.
I cycle to work too, I'm not suggesting my go to when seeing protestors or cyclists is to score points death race 2000 style, I would look for alternate outs, though that film crosses my mind more than it should, points values popping up everywhere 1000 points for a granny crossing the road....can't only be me.... If I had too I would.
I mean it is and it isn’t. Your average person will have a funeral of an hour or so and then a wake afterwards, lasting a couple hours. Only the insanely rich and powerful get to have their wake upgraded to a week of national mourning with the funeral happening somewhere in the middle. And people queueing 14 hours to make sure she’s dead and not coming back as a zombie. Two men enter, one man leave!
Campaign groups withheld any protests today, at the funeral, deeming it to be inappropriate. So, there have been no funeral protests.
That's good and I respect the campaign groups more for that, even if I don't agree with what they are campaigning for. All said and done though would they be really silly enough to try?
Well no, I'm all for campaigners and the right to protest but if you don't use common sense then they'll alienate many who may have otherwise listened to their arguments.
