I'm quite sad. This forum used to be so good. Doesn't mean it can't get better. But it's sad seeing the oldies go.
I think that's down to personal perspective. Over the years several forums I've thought have gone down hill but I think that was down to me and how I perceived them. Taking a break sorted that out.
I still see B-T as a decent community. Sure not everyone is going to give a crap as much as others do in communities (evidence: Canon ) but that's that... you get different types of people everywhere.
It's quite funny to see that there are the same troubles here that there are on Twitter and other social-participation based websites about. I've been here years and whilst I've not posted much, I've seen it change (getting bought, merging with CPC etc) and I don't think the forums have changed so much as the people have... most moved on, some stayed and didn't like the new intake. The forum environment is quite reminiscent of a school if you get what I mean...
Yes I think I get what u mean. I've been reported to the headmaster because two of the kiddies (who happen to be buddies with each other) didn't like a lighthearted comment I made about someone's religious sig. The person who had the religious sig said it wasn't the first time someone had commented on it and that he didn't think people should. I suggested to him that if he didn't want or expect people to comment then he shouldn't be posting a religious sig encouraging others to copy and paste to their own sig if they love jesus. I told him I didn't have a problem with his religious sig, but since it was shown for everyone to see, I felt it was unreasonable for him not to accept comments about it. If I posted 'lucifer is my guiding light, add this to your sig if you believe' Should I not expect comments? Should i then get pissy if someone comments?
We are a community of many different parts and groups therefore not everyone will get along, "A church for everyone will have no one but a church for purple haired Zoroastrians will have many followers" I am not afraid to say I dislike the way some people in this thread talk its like arguing with my teenage brother who struggles to hold a well structured debate with out reducing down to name calling. But hey I'm the guy that is pretty lazy and posts threads I already know the answer to so we all got problems.
I said you shouldn't post offtopic comments about it, I've no problem people commenting on my sig in general as was. Merely that you shouldn't derail threads to do so.
What were the off topic comments about it? I can't find any posts in this thread about your sig. Have I not gone back far enough George? Anyway, will you be putting it back? I honestly liked it. If I had room, I would put it in my sig too. That's not meant disrespectfully, it's just that I'd rather link an online community and any number of forum visitors/guests to my personal project threads rather than use the space to let them know that I'm a Christian. Because at the end of the day, most of them don't really know me and that information doesn't really matter to them, but they might get a kick out of reading one of my threads (hopefully! ).
I had it because I saw someone else have it and thought why not, to me, it actually makes more sense on this kinda forum to have specs, or as you've got links to build logs etc. It was never meant to disrupt threads.
Me and Longweight seem to get people like this quite often, not sure how but anyway. I'll leave it at that. Back on topic.
Ah, I see the whole picture now, thanks for linking. It was Feathers, that explains a lot. The answer to the OP's question in this thread is "no, but people like Feathers are". Don't feel guilty about it mate, there was absolutely nothing wrong with it - his comment was absolutely out of line. He should get a one week ban for instantly and intentionally derailing a thread like that. Anyway, back on topic. My questions have been answered.
Well I didn't realise it was going to spark world war 3. It wasn't meant to ridicule your beliefs, just an alternative viewpoint but not posted in an entirely serious way. It's quite infuriating when the local clique jump in and make it something it's not. It just makes the forum seem like a c*ntish place. I didn't know it was going to derail the thread. Problem is they won't stop now and of course their ultimate objective here is to get someone they dislike banned. Way to go.
Quite an interesting situation, where I don't see either party as fully culpable. As such the more each party tries to argue their point, the more both parties end up losing out. It serves to hammer home the point made several times recently - what someone else posts is immaterial compared to how you respond to it. Stop looking for squabbles. It's Christmas, boys & girls - ain't you got new games to play or new parts to mod?
