Now the place I'm looking forward to seeing FSR 4 rather than DLSS is in laptop APUs where I think it'd be beneficial.

Not that I used it in CP on my pc but a bit of gaming on a light laptop when travelling it would be useful.

No idea when that would happen.

It pretty much happens now with Intel mobile GPUs using XESS which is on par with DLSS and FSR4, in some respects it is better as it is not as fragmented as FSR, Intel operating more like NV and supporting all the gens of Xe, the move to ML hardware stuff on FSR4 means that the RDNA 3/ 3.5 APUs are out of luck, there are lower quality models for FSR4 that can be switched in on the old APUs manually using Optiscaler etc but it's not as good as proper FSR4.

AMDs position on support for older RDNA is a shame as the APUs are great, I have 2 Strix Halo APU, great GPU power but can be let down with poor FSR scaling on a big screen only suited to little screens where you don't see the artefacts. Sometimes I choose XESS for better IQ than FSR even if I don't get the XMX version on AMD APU it can still be better. Fortunately, Strix Halo has plenty of grunt for the handheld/laptop screens without FSR so don't have to use it often.

When I pop my eGPU on (9070xt) and play something like BF6 maxxed out 4k with the new ML FSR4 and framegen @ 144fps, it's a thing of beauty no artefacts lovely, AMD needs to update their APUs rather than all this rebranding as Intel B390 is killing it in the laptop gaming space at reasonable power, its scaling and framegen is great.

It's a strange world where you recommend Intel for gaming over AMD. :D

Thanks for that @sandys ,must admit I've not followed laptops much recently but have been starting to mull it over as I fancy a little laptop that doesn't weigh a ton like my old behemoth to take away this summer.

Fancy being able to do a little bit of gaming but don't feel from what I've seen of FSR that anything before 4 is worth it. Not even thought of the XESS.

Yup you can get the Intel B390 in a Sub 1Kg laptops, perfect for travel, of course perhaps not the cheapest, but T&L are rarely cheap, you're looking for Intel Ultra X7/X9 the X signifying B390 Xe3 iGPU.

It should be noted of course it is an iGPU so you have to temper expectations, you'd still be better served with a RTX5060 laptop with DLSS but they obviously need to come in larger heavier things around 1.5-2.5kg without the battery life and will pretty much only game on supply.
