am i the only one who can't get on IRC?

for some reason any time i try to connect to IRC (on every server i've tried) i get this message:

any ideas what's wrong? (or is everyone having this problem?)

 

connect to irc.quakenet.org - it'll forward you to a random (working) quakenet server

 

been there, done that. same error.....

 

Personally i'm on oslo.no.quakenet.org and it's working fine

 

When i connect to IRC it just hangs on 'Checking Ident' after its 'Found my hostname, cached' recently

EDIT: downloaded another irc client, working now

 

arg - i even installed trillian and also tried a javascript version of irc and neither of them could connect either! what would be causing this?? i can connect with aim and msn, along with the internet (obviously), but not irc. i'm out of ideas

 

firewall? you could try opening ports 6660~6669

I can't get on mIRC; but that doesn't surprise me, i can't do anything behind this crappy network... even unblocking the ports i get "Blocked by firewall" on the server connection screen

 

thats a firewall issue, means your not sending an ident response, irc will hang for about a min till its sure u aint got an ident, then continue connecting...

I have the same issue due to my router and as of yet aint fixed it :/

Bacon try:

netstat from command prompt, see if anythings already using your irc ports (ie 6667-6670)

 

Any chance you got G-lined or something?

Wouldn't hurt to do a virus scan.

 

if he got glined it would have told him. same with k lined.

and the ident thing, it does taht for me too. 62sec after that message pops up it finishes tho. ST8, was right, its waiting for an ident responce, you might want to turn it on, and see if that helps. Also, if you use mirc, fill in a username in the email section. if there is not ident, it uses that sometimes.

well, i scanned my pc, didn't find any viruses. also, nothing else is using that port(s) either. well, seeing as how i'm having a few other problems with my pc also that i can't solve (some games etc refuse to work correctly) i think i might just go ahead and do another formatting on my pc

if it STILL doesn't work, i know what i can do...

lol, soda no, not just for irc.

like i said, i've been having trouble since i last formatted. a couple games don't won't to work (pc keeps crashing) plus a few other things, so it's not allllll just for irc
