Biscuit Expo, RTT Convention or AMD Briefing?

CEO AND PRESIDENT of AMD, Hector Ruiz, made a speech this morning here in Dresden and claimed the topping off of its Fab 36 underlined the firm’s determination not to follow others but to choose its own "path to greatness".

Ruiz said three planks formed the basis of AMD’s route to success. The recipe for winning requires a different approach, he said. Those planks are to lead the industry to pervasive 64 bit computing, establish its flash memory technology Mirrorbit as a new industry, and to empower each and every individual to help them help themselves.

Who would ever need 20gb of RAM; four Opterons, and only 5 expansion slots? Linky

Having worked on that board...lots of people need more then 20GB of ram, 4 opterons and 5 expansion slots.

For example you have a HUGE database that is accessed contantly.
A auction site, or search engine for example.

Accessing harddrives is suicide at those speeds.

As far as the 5 expansion slots, the board already has dual gigabit nics, 4 SATA, and a Dual SCSI controller.

Any add-on cards would probably be either more NICs or high-end graphics.

Or course having Dual-core opterons would instantly give you 8 CPUs without having to upgrade your board.
