I recently bought an AMD 2400+ Athlon XP Processor, 266Mhz bus speed. I put it in an EPOX VIA KM400 EP-8KMM3I motherboard. I'm making this computer for my girlfriend's parents, and is the first AMD computer I have built. Problem is it is rated at 1.8Ghz but only Clocks in at 800Mhz where did I go wrong? I set the CPU jumpers to 133 bus, it has 256MB PC-2700 DDR333VS Corsair RAM. Please help! It is going to my girlfriend first so she can use it till her stolen laptop insurance money comes in. -coolred
make sure the multi is set to 15 in the bios, it seems to be at 6 atm (6*133=798mhz) i thought 2400+s were 2ghz (15*133=2ghz~)?
Yes, I can't find a spot to change the multiplier though. I thought of that and looked through the manual and all the bios and didn't find anything for it. This 2400+ is 1.8Ghz. Linky to it. Thanks!
thats a mobile 2400+ u listed, i cant b sure but a normal 2400+ i built for a mate is 2.0ghz as stated b4. ill find out how 2 change the multi 4 ya if i can EDIT: DL 12.4mb manual at 6kb damn i hate epox, wait mayb i should stop DL NFSU2 at 500kb
eek. looks like your fudged. Mobiles need a motherboard with multi changing compatibility. they usually boot at a low clockspeed like 6*100, then you have to manually change the fsb and multi to the proper speeds. You'll need a new mobo or a non-mobile CPU, unless you bridge / socket mod it to the correct multiplier (can you even do that?) btw, 1.8ghz is the right clockspeed because the mobiles are bartons rather then T-breds (like the 2400 non-mobiles)
i dont think he needs go that far. what is the system for? gaming, word appz etc? seeing as they probly wont overclock i suggest a Asus A7N8X-X or GB 7n400-L
If you're not going to overclock it, sell it and get a normal one. You shouldn't lose too much money. If you want to overclock, get the NF7-S as someone has already mentioned
It is just for daily use for them, nothing spectacular. When their kids come home from college it would be used for more things but till then just internet/word/email, etc. Don't need to overclock it. This was just a quick, inexpensive fix for their 266Mhz that crapped out on them. Any suggestions that include onboard video? (If you know of any mobos that let you change multiplier off the top of your head so I don't have to look through that manuals) I would much rather not have to buy a video card in addition to another motherboard. Thanks again!
If you can find an NF7-M, that'll have onboard Geforce4 MX graphics . 95% certain they have multiplier adjustment too.
i agree, at least if youve got something that will oc.. its a bit better future proofed, for when it starts to feel 'slow' plus o/b gfx shud be fine for the need if you already have graphics card for it.. get the basic NF7 v2.0.. come in as cheap as the cheapest NF2 mobos, but lets you oc just as good.. i have it or, another sensible idea, sell the mobile, theres plenty of ebay ioiots that will pay you more than they could even at newegg.. and then buy a standard desktop one
So you think I should get rid of the Barton and get the Thoroughbred 2.0Ghz? I think I'd have an easier time selling the processor and that way I wouldn't have to worry about multiplier and onboard gfx. Like I said, they don't need it to be OC'd.
