Been wanting to upgrade for a while and missed the cheapish 7850's so been looking at 270X's since christmas, and noticed that OCUK have a cheap MSI 270 for £131 today.

am i going to miss the extra bit of performance dropping down to the 270, or is it really a nat's whatsit of difference??

    Thanks

From latest CPC issue you should get the 270x hardly any extra cash considering the big upgrade when going for 1080p gaming

    big upgrade, 50-100mhz?

most of the reviews i can find suggest i might be losing 2-3fps at most, and i'm only gaming at 1680 x whatever at the mo

The 270 and 270x are basically identical bar the clockspeed. (1280 cores, 32 rops etc).

The 270 won't clock as far as the 270x thanks to binning and a lack of board power (it has only one pci-e connector) but overall the differences between the two in game will come down to a handful of FPS.

If you can get a 270x for not a lot more than the 270 then get that. If not the 270 is still a decent buy - especially the MSI listed above.

However a cheaper 270x with an inferior cooler may as we'll be a top end 270 with a decent cooler, the prices are close but the cooler will really make ore break the card.

Whatever you decide the 270 I recently acquired was a pretty sweet upgrade for my 6850. She runs a bit hotter hence why I say cooling will be your main concern.
