AMD has unveiled its next generation graphics card - the ATI HD5800 series - which is capable of driving six monitors from a single GPU.

gosh - maybe this will start the trend towards monitors with very little plastic side casing.. allowing for more seamless multi-monitor setups !! i knew i applied for that second credit card for a reason )

 

Am I the only one that finds this 6 screen setup actually looks uncomfortable to play on? Black bars all over the place... great.

Will this work with Display Port only? They realize the multi screen via drivers, so this should work with the old 4870 as well?

 

Now that's impressive, and yes, monitors with no side casing please for that setup.

 

Imagine 6 OLED screens with no border gently curving round in front of you...

 

Sold my 4850 and holding out for 58XX cards can't wait!

I have always thought that monitors were not big enough. I have had dual and tri monitor setups, I am really looking forward to trying this out, and the no side bezel or led for power is a nice addition.

I may just have found a reason to turn my back on Nvidia now (unless they do something similar). Looks tasty, and +1 on no side-casing for monitors.

Lets face it 3 screens is beyond most peeps pocket and space for that fact....

 

Really? I've had a triple screen setup for about 18 months now. Expanding to 6 would only really cost €450 give or take.

 

Looking at that image im thinking, just get a 1080p 50" screen, at that distance the human eye wouldnt be able to tell the difference in resolution anyhow.

 

That would have a similar effect of being on the border of a heart attack with 6 naked curvy women standing round you.


If i were still doing live VJ work, this would be perfect, run 2 stacks of 3 projectors from one system.

Crikey, live performances at large venues would be great too, grab a quad PCIe board and run 24 outs to 24 displays, ohh yes.

 

yeah someone should mod the hell out of a few monitors by carving the sides off then mounting them on a custom mount

Sold my HD4870, and now I don't regret... what a beast the 5870 must be... nVidia is already saying to wait for GT300 that they have a surprise too... The problem is... HD58** will come this month, GT300 only in December...
