Looking for a good cheap E450 based Netbook >12"

Was eyeing Lenovo''s which have fantastic battery life but all the cracked Display issues have put me off.

After Lenovo, Asus has done me proud over the years.
Want the cheapest version as I would upgrade RAM myself, not really worried about OS as I have that already.

(do all netbooks have 2 RAM slots or do some only have 1?)

Would also consider Samsung or Figitsu Seimens.

Acer, Dell, HP not a chance so many bad experiences and reviews.
I want a net book for entertainment that will last a few years and I can get battery replacements when needed.

8GB RAM 1 Stick Guess it doesn't matter then, as there is no point in more then 8GB for a netbook. That should fit an entire BD rip in the ram. Oh happy days :D

Edit: the 1600 MHz speed should boost the iGP too :)

The only one i could find in a quick search was the MSI Wind U270, there is a catch however, I can't find it on sale, not even on ebay, which is a little odd, as references to it are 2 years old.

I vote for the Lenovo ThinkPad x130e.

I've got myself a Thinkpad x121e - allthough with an intel i3-2357M. Nevertheless the devices should be allmost identical and the matte display is superior to those glossy ones from Asus or whatever. Additionally the trackpoint is way better to use then the crappy trackpads on most subnotebooks.

The cracked display should be no problem with the ThinkPad either. It's only a problem with the cheaper IdeaPads I think, or atleast that's what I get off the reports about this issue. And let's be honest, it's 99% the fault of the users when the display cracks, be it due to stuff between display and keyboard when closing, or due to bad handling in general (stepping upon, sitting on bag, etc...)

My ThinkPad x121e whatsoever has no issues with the display, and it's more then a year old. battery-life is also quiet awesome. In addition it's got two memory-slots and a very easily replaceble HDD. I switched my HDD for a SSD without problems.

Good to hear it does not have any trouble closing where one side sticks open a bit.

Where did you get yours? I can not find in the UK at all.

Agreed, two ram slots, easy to access with tooless entry on the entire underside.

Just don't drive over it as the screen will crack ...... oops :D

I replaced my x121s with the DM1 it was better built, better sound from speakers and a better screen.

If you just want entertainment what about a tablet they are small, robust and have great battery life, my Asus TF300 does a great job at all that and web with a decent screen and lots of storage.

ew no thanks tables are still over expensive toys in my view. Besides I could not even play a little SC2 on a tablet but a friend of mine can do it on his stock e-350, on small maps even MP :)

Yes I want to at least play a few basic games on it. If I can not at least get C&C generals, SC2 and D2LOD to work on it then I might as well keep my big brick laptop.HP DM1 is that a good price?

    Lenovo Ideapad is £50 cheaper.

Thinkpad edge 325 £454 To bad its so expensive :(

I've had my HP DM1 for about 6 months and it's great. Nothing to report really, no problems at all, it just works. I usually leave the charger at home too, unless I plan on using it for more than 7-8 hours.
