I just found out about the AMD PIC computer today. Even though the AMD PIC has the performance of a handheld PC, if it was available locally, I imagine it might do well. I've got to say, if AMD boosts the performance of their uber budget PC, they can wreak havok on Apple's prospective mini-mac sales. Oh well, I just wanted to see what people thought about this.
yea its a little bit of competion, but i has absoulutly no style probably the worst looking pc ever. The only thing it has going for it is the fact that is uses a full size hdd. I would own an apple mini mac right now if it had a full size hdd, lappy hdds are outragiously priced
The reason that they have no style is because they are intended for emerging markets. Think India and Africa. It's part of an larger effort to promote economic growth through small businesses. The places these computers are inteded to go to are dust and moisture prone. And the people that will hopefuly be using them are not exactly tech savy. The idea is to allow small businesses to start and flourish by letting them use the internet to find buyers, the most basic of B2B. That way one large company can't force 10,000 farmers to sell their products at below market prices. The more they know about weather, market prices, product availability, the more they will be able to steer their futures.
maximun PC says 366mhz $185 for just unit keyboard and mouse $249 with a 15in crt "amd plans to sell in india russia china mexico and brazil this year" is it jsut me or is that still alot of money for these poor contires, i think it will still be out of reach of alot of people!
i wonder how long until someone gets linux on one of these.... i would be a little concerned about the size of these things. they are small, and fairly pricey for the parts of the world they are targeting. i would imagine these things would be getting ripped off everytime someone turned their back. there would be a thriving black market for them....
$250 is a lot of money, but let's not forget that that's a complete PC solution for £135! That's ridiculously cheap when you think that even the cheapest pre-built PC's are twice that price when you're lucky in this country...
Precisely! This is also meant for slightly larger ventures not a small guy in his shed somewhere in the middle of Russia I think this is a great idea, the net is a massive resource and if 3rd world countries have more widespread access, it can only be a good thing.
