    Advanced Micro Devices shipped is first Athlon 64 microprocessor specifically designed for notebooks on Tuesday, along with a faster 3400+ chip designed for desktop PCs.

    Although AMD previously announced a "mobile" Athlon 64, the chip was designed for desktop-replacement notebooks, a close cousin to a desktop PC. The new mobile Athlon 64 chips are designed for more mainstream laptops, and eMachines Inc. will design a notebook around the new chip, to be available later this month.
