Sounds a bit like they had one idea and don't know what to do next.
Glad they made decent money out of this though, much prefer to see interesting original games over yearly re-release franchises, regardless of the budget.
I wager a significant number of those sales are by people who haven't actually played it - due to sales purchases, its inclusion in the humble bundle and those who are too scared! *sheepishly holds up hand*
"Grip attributes the persistent sales figures to the game's modding community"
I do hope other developers take note to this. Moddable games are so much more fun, and generally better than most DLCs. It also keeps people buying the game way after its been released.
I never finished it either!
Build it and they will come.
In other words, make a good game and people will buy it.
Allow people to mod it and people will continue to buy it.
Alternatively, take the more fashionable model and make a game that's similar to all the others, lock it down so that its un-moddable, charge for map packs, then moan that there is no money to made out of PC gaming.
Same here! I have it. Two copies, in fact. Haven't even dared to install it yet.
I'm a wuss, I'll admit that freely where Amnesia is concerned.
Delighted to hear that it's doing so well for the devs, though. I love stories like that.
I thought games do not make money anymore because of piracy???
Putting tools in the hands of gamers to create custom content is probably the greatest thing a game company can do for their titles, even if it's something as simple as forge mode in halo or something as complex as using the hammer editor in source. POWER TO THE PEOPLE.
Also, I too am one who owns the game, big fan of horror games, and yet I've also not been able to finish it. One day I shall overcome, one day. . .
So right - Warcraft 3 ROC was released in 2002 and is still played at LANs because of the fun mod maps people have made, one of which spawned a whole new genre of game!
If nothing mods give the creativity of the users a chance to show off their talent
this is good news for them but slightly OT, is anyone else a bit worried about the next amnesia game being developed by the people behind esther?
so happy for them. the scariest game ever! very very few things are so definite. and this game is undoubtedly the scariest, anyone who says otherwise never played it.
I started playing this today, I'm really enjoying it so far, it is different to anything I've played before. So far I've only got a bit freaked out but I guess it'll get worse. The last time I felt fear from a game was F. E. A. R. A fair few years back. I think amnesia may also do it.
I tried the demo and didn't like it, indie games suck.
It wasn't scary, I was just bored and couldn't even get through the demo.
I don't like games that tell you how to enjoy them, i'll enjoy it on my own if it's a good game if you have to tell me then it's crap.
Hardly. These guys were already responsible for an outstanding game franchise before Amnesia.
