I found elephant rubbish, try direct line.. oh, and it helps to take some voluntary excess if you think you'll be able to afford it at the time.

Well, generally they don't really care how much the car costs when you get to a certain point.

That said, it's flipping high. I guess I should have been more suprised.. oh, here it comes: :eeek:

hmm, seems elephant are pathetic ripoffs..... they just quoted me 3200 quid for just third party insurance for my mini (not even fire and theft O_O )

and considering I've had quotes of a grand from over places.... sheesh, they obviously don't want young'uns on their books.

apparently tesco's insurance is reasonable, for us uk'ers.

That is really really high for that car! Elephant.co.uk quoted me (after adding a few months to my age) £4400 for a Mondeo 1.8lx, 1996 worth £2000, garaged living in Eastbourne, used for commuting/leisure. Even that is h'extorionate, looks like elephant don't favour younger drivers one bit!

I cannot believe the cost of insurance across the pond. I pay less than $100 a month for two cars (one of them full coverage), my house, and life on me. Granted, Im 31 now, but even as a teen I never came close to that amount.

its to do with the age of the car... not many insurers will insure a car fully comp that is as old as that is... it simply isn't worth it m8 in all honesty, u had a crash in that, and it'd be a writeoff... being totally serious here.

go for 3rd party fire and theft, u can get that for around £800-1000, and it'd save you a lot of money, cos seriously any car worth under £1k is unlikely to come out of an accident without being a writeoff...

Wow, And I thought My insurance was high. I live in the US, with a clean record, 30years old, and it is $1000US for 6 months for full coverage on my 2001 Dodge Durango 5.9 and my 1998 Jeep Cherokee 4.0

Then again, I couldnt' afford to drive to the gas station in England with those cars, I was there in 1999 and the price of gas (petril [sp]) is insane as well... they really want you to walk over there don't they. The biggest car I saw there was I think a Jeep Cherokee Deisel... GOD BLESS AMERICA for my CARS, if nothing else.

Elephant.co.uk beat everyone by about £70 on my car insurance, but I phoned them up for a quote. Maybe they guy @ the other end of the phone managed to pull a few strings.
P.S Pflumingo why do you think one of the reasons Bush wants to goto war, maybe to keep the petrol prices down?? but you are right the government want us to use public transport but wont invest properly in the public transport system. A prime example is it takes me 40 mins to drive to work (a mere 8 miles) yet to get there by public transport it takes 1 bus, a train, the use of the underground tube train and the Docklands light railway which takes 1 1/2 hrs if there are no problems. This country is frequently referred to in the press as rip off Britian as we pay a higher price for most things i.e cars, beer, electronics etc.

You say only paying £1268, bloody hell that is a lot. I think the most I ever paid was £700 and I hated paying that, it was a mitshibushi 2.0 galant them jap cars are a rip off for parts they wanted £125+vat for a brake cable and I needed 2 of them. I went back to crappy old ford where if you can't buy the parts you can nick em :D :p
