not so much of an immediate problem as a puzzling question. On my laptop, when I attempt to do a windows update, I have 14 updates that supposedly succeed in updating, but constantly show up as available updates. heres the list by KB# KB944533 KB941568 KB941569 KB942624 KB943055 KB943078 KB946026 KB946456 KB935509 KB943411 KB947172 KB905866 KB943302 KB943899 dates are 1/22/08, 12/11/07, and 2/12/08 OS is Windows Vista Ultimate Hardware is a Sony Vaio VGN-FZ190 hopefully someone has a solution, as everything I've tried has not worked (yet!!)
try downloading each setup/installer file. install one and reboot. check windows update again to seeif that one was removed from list. good luck.
I've tried each individually, with the same results. Microsoft was singularly unhelpful (uninstall every damn update and try again; didn't work either)
what a pain. bummer. i got no concrete ideas. wild ideas to try [1] Try login into the default XP "Administrator" and do it there. [2] go into Safe Mode and do it there. I'm not sure updates can be done in safe mode. can't recall.. [3] registry cleaner? when all else fails, reinstall windows. sorry couldn't be any more helpful. cheers.
its Vista actually not XP, and I've tried a few registry hacks, and reinstalling is out of the question (no disc for starters sine its an OEM install) I'm continuing to work on it and will fix it eventually (I checked and they have actually applied since the fixes are there) or just ignore them. mostly this thread exists for those who wish to explore the mystery.
right click on the update in the win update window and choose "hide". (or was it "ignore"?) Should work in theory at least.
