A couple of years ago when I built my current rig, after a long and complicated process of deciding exactly which components I would buy, I ended up buying an Asus P5KC. The only remarkable thing about this P35 board was that it supported both DDR2 and DDR3, which was not something I was interested in then (DDR3 was still an expensive novelty). I also picked up 4Gb of Corsair XMS2 for only about £45. The other week, while shopping for some upgrades for a friend's PC I bought him 8Gb of DDR3 (more Corsair) for only £31. "Ram is cheap now" thinks I, I wonder how much another 4Gb of DDR2 would cost? Turns out, it's still £40 for the same 4Gb I bought before. So I checked out ebay, and found that the prices there were only a bit cheaper. This was when I had my great idea So, I've just bought 8Gb of DDR3 for just over £30, and also just sold my old 4Gb of DDR2 for £31. Of course, I couldn't have done this if I'd not bought a weird board that supported both types of memory, also, when I upgrade, I'll already have 8Gb of nice RAM (not much of a post I know, but I just wanted to brag a bit, and hopefully someone else can profit from my good luck if they also have a board that supports DDR2 and 3)
