    acrimonious, do u use a program (other than a graphics editor) to do those schematics? if so whats it called cuz it would be very handy! :D

    Yeah I tested them out and had a look direct in the view angel and it almosy bloody blinded me!!! but they seem aroung the same brightness as the blue ones, so im guess the blue one might be super bright or hyper bright as they only run off 5 v

    Is this the right opto-isolator,

    A transistor optocoupler in a DIP-4 package with a low current input and a very high coupling transfer ratio (CTR), typically 120%. The device has good CTR linearity relative to forward current and a high VCEO of 55V DC. The device can be ‘end stacked’ if necessary (2·54mm spacing).

    the specs are

    Specification:
    Emitter – maximum ratings
    Reverse voltage: 6V
    DC forward current: 50mA
    Surge forward current (=10µS): 2·5A
    Total power dissipation: 70mW
    Detector – maximum ratings
    Voltage
    VCEO: 55V
    VECO: 7V
    Collector current: 50mA
    Surge collector current (=1mS): 100mA
    Total power dissipation: mW
    Coupling capacitance: 0·25pF
    Coupling transfer ratio
    IF = 1mA, VCE = 0·5V: 63% to 125%
    IF = 0·5mA, VCE = 1·5V: 75% (=32%

    i use livewire, thats all.

    Thats the right opto-isolator, yes

    Hey acrimonious, you know you lazer idea for turning on your pc, well could it be done with suce things as your house lighting, or would it be better to run then of PIRs

    You could use the lazer thing allthough remember you tinkering with a lotta volts there.

    I know, but Im usless for leaving lights on :( plus it would be cool, cant imagim many house with them

    I take it you would run a low power circuit for the lazer system that would trigger the high power lighting circuit on using a big relay or something

    Hey acrimonious now you on, Just a quick question, should the CMOS 4029B IC on your circuit not have its own power supply like the one off bit_tech??????

    Also, it does run off 12V dont it, cause it blew up when I built it last night off 12v and worked on 5 V

    Well on my diagrams the Vcc and Vdd connections are hidden and require 5volts. HIDDEN DIGITAL POWER SUPPLYs are common on most pure circuit diagrams

    Oh right, Its pin 16 and 8 that need the power isnt it???

    So do I need to put a resistor between the power from them then dont I as its running 12V, what value resistor shall I use???

    Its also need a capacitor between the power and pin 8 dont it????

    USE THE 5VOLT LINE ON THE VCC AND VDD!!!!!!!!!!

    You will have to consult a data sheet for any furthur advice.

    Could you please post a linky to the program you use to create the circuit diagrams please, they look so much nicer than the electronics workbench ones I have to put up with :)

    As its been said above the CMOS 4029 IC needs 5V, does the 555 timer use 12V as on the circuit diagram or should that be connected to 5V too?????
