What do you mean by setting it to half way??

I tried a 100 ohm, 220 ohm, 240K ohm earlier and didnt seem to notice anything:waah:

nope you need it for the LEDs to come, it gives the tranys base a current you see.

Oh right, thats why it didnt work, I know you can connect an LED straight to the out put of a 555 timer and see it flash slow, so i just done it that way and tried to make it flash fast!!!!

So the circuit is the same but I take it I connect just one output of the 4029 to the LED I want to strobe and leave all the others empty.

follow as on circuit diagram with new ICs in holders and it'll be fine!

    Hi acrimonious, how things???

Well, Ive brought the DIL sockects and some new 555 timers and 4029 ICs, fitted them all in and tried again......guess what, nope, all the LEDs stay on, and the 4029 IC seems to get Hot. Ive checked my circuit over and over and it looks ok.

Any suggestions to what set of test I can do to find the problem :waah:

    It never goes right :waah:

    Cheers
    Russ
Oh and brought a UV light today, didnt realise they pump out so many volts, 1000 Gulp????
Not that bright either, its only 4mm diameter, but its a proper case UV, I want bigger and more power!!!

Hmmm. have you wired the 4029's Vdd and Vcc to the 12v instead of the 5v by accident? and the right way round?

Yep, its running on a 5v supply on the Molex plug....5V is the RED and Black right!!!!

Ive got +V going to pin 8 and pin 16 with a Capacitor in between the power and the earth like below,
    [IMG]

Let me just look at it again, I think I might be send 12V straight to pin 8 (Vss) instead of it going though the capacitor first....

    would that explain it

Ok, I got it wrong, I had 12v going to pin 8 when it shouldnt of been, 8 should of been earth and connected to 12v only via a capacitor.

But before I put a new 4029 chip in is there any way of checking that it will work first, cause it my last chip and I dont want to blow it, Ive got a volt meter, is there a series of tests I cen do to ensure evenry thing is ok. Ive checked the 555 timer with an LED and its pumping out a nice slow steady flash.

I you sure about connecting any of it to 12v?

It would help if i could see the pic you posted above.

I would try it with 5v ALLWAYs first.

Im using the power to IC2 like the set up in this Rainbow

I didnt mean I was putting 12v through all of it, its set up like you said, 12v to the 555 timer and 5V to the 4029.....but will the above power setup to IC2 be right for 5v
