FARMINGTON -- A local parent flipping through a child’s cell phone last week led to the arrest Friday of six teens -- three from Farmington and three from Massachusetts -- who were using the latest technology to market marijuana throughout town.

According to police, local teens would call kids in Shrewsbury, Mass., to arrange for a sale. The Massachusetts teens would then photograph their merchandise and send a text message with the photo back.

"They had a lot of proprietary enthusiasm," Sgt. Daniel Devine said. "They would e-mail a picture of the drugs and a message to kids in town on their cell phone, and then the kids in Farmington would send the photo and message to all their friends to notify them of the upcoming sale."

The scheme broke down, however, when a parent happened to be thumbing through their kid’s cell phone and found the message advertising the next sale. The parent then notified police.

Didn't these kids know that you have to lock the phone when you don't have it with you?! What silly kids!

That's a dumb way of doing it. Fast but dumb. One phone gets checked, you're all screwed.

Haha, that's funny. Thats from back home too. I wonder if I know any of those dumb asses. When I was in high school i know the kids used to set up drop off/pick ups during school with their "two-ways"...

    pwned.

I heard of some kid that got out of getting busted thanks to text messaging. Was off in the upper parking lot getting stoned and his friend in class texted him that the assistant principal was coming up for him. Needless to say, he left and the punishment for cutting class was substantially less than a drug bust would have been.

Nosey parent, though. I'd say the kid has no defense when he's going about why the parents are invading his privacy, all they have to do is point at the thing. "Umm... this is why. Any questions?"

    pwned.

Even though the parent was in a way being a bit nosey it was just them being protective and doing the right thing I'm sure that's the only reason they were looking through this time..

I'm sure all ofus some point in life have had something we didin't want our parents to see either because it was something "naughty" but basically this guy didn't lock his phone and got busted... and someone with intelligence would at least delete all the sms messages along with the pictures immediately after receiving or sending them..

i'd probably cr*p with anger if my mum/dad went through my SMS when i was 15/16 or now. The messages i receive would've destroyed their innocent portrayal of me. :p
