How do I log out of Gmail app on android phone? The native gmail app on my android phone (HTC Incredible) doesn't allow you to log out of email and you can't set it up to require a password to access your Gmail account. Is there any way to make it require password or to log in and out at will?

No, there is no in-built way to password protect any of the default messaging applications, in any official revision up to and including Froyo.

However, the Pattern/PIN/Password on unlock are all very good, especially if you set your screen lock interval to a low setting.

I know it means you then can't lend someone your phone in a usable state without allowing them full access to everything on your phone, but you should really be more discerning about who you hand your device to if you feel you can't trust them.

With the level of data now collected by my phone, down to my precise GPS co-ords, and named location, and address (publicly available), as well as all my important documents, it doesn't bear thinking about what could get you into trouble.. Illegitimate/accidental purchases, dodgy websites now associated with your full name, not to mention, the most annoying thing of all - people who don't know the device has SWYPE, and end up adding loads of crap to my dictionary. Grrrrrr

    /completely OT

    Anyway.

Here's to hoping you have a barcode scanner app installed. If not, get one > It's a must have.

This will allow you to protect your emails (and in fact any app on your device) by a password.

    Hmmm.

On second thoughts, in case you don't have a barcode reader app, and didn't want unnecessary apps on your phone, the password protector in question is called 'Protector' in the Android Marketplace, made by Alexander Kosenkov. Free, of course.

As someone already said, you are unable to log out of the gmail account but you can remove it. I personally like to keep it on as it holds my credit card details to use in the Market.

Best barcode reader is QuickMark which is a free app. I must disagree and say that a barcode reader would be necessary app as it's more widely used in modern times. QuickMark uses your phone's camera to check links, pages and other stuff.
