    I'd recommend:
Royal Space Force: The Wings of Honniamese (R2)
Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro (R2)
    Spriggan (R1)
Jin Roh: The Wolf Brigade (R1)

Quality films that should grace all anime fan's collections. ...and throw away the copy of Legend of the Overfiend for being the dire piece of poop that it is.

I think I have about 30ish anime DVDs.

    Stuff like:
    Trigun
    Love Hina
    Initial D
    Kenshin
    FLCL
    Excel Saga
All the usual films... Yada yada.

The Trigun series comes in many flavours depending what country you buy it from. Depends if you wanna spend more or less, quality dependent of course. Mine's a Hong Kong set, but I know guys with the Region 1 set that cost $200ish. Obviously, the subs and dubs are better on Region 1.

Cowboy Bebop box sets have been out ages and ages and ages in Japan, China and the US. I wouldn't hang around for any kind of UK release as that seems hideously unlikely. The feature length 'Knocking On Heaven's Door' is scheduled for a theatrical release this year you lucky Americans. Me jealous.

eBay is my preferred choice for anime DVDs or my frien'd friend, although I'd only use eBay if you definitely know what you're after. Copies of series vary so much you may end up with a really dodgy version.

i can't really pick a category here...i'd have to say i've seen and liked from most/all of the categories ... i get most series direct from tv (fansubbing delay == maybe 2=10 days) and if i don't like it i just won't get more from that series.... but i already ave too much (atleast over 500 eps of random series archived.. probably more)

All the anime I've got falls under the 'classic' banner:

Royal Space Force: The Wings of Honniamese
    Akira
    Princess Monoke

Haven't bought any anime in a while though. Any suggestions?

I've been meaning to give Ghost in the Shell a try...

I went for SciFi... but you should have added a 'mech/robot suit' catergory too.

Aha, that was the one I thought of half way through and forgot to stick on the end. Hence no Gundam or Eva in the polls... I was leaving em til last. Which is a little silly.

I'll add it and can change your vote to Mecha if ya like, you must like Full Metal Panic and Patlabor and the like eh? ;)

Thanks for the life sucking option! That about sums it up for me. Eventhough my collection of anime DVDs is small, about 25 I think; the last six or eight were bought in the last 3 weeks!

It started years ago with Akira, Ninja Scroll, and Wings of Honniamese. Then it spread, oohhh did it spread. I bought Ghost in the Shell before I had a DVD player, only because I knew I was getting one for Christmas. Then came Rurouni Kenshin and buying up all the Neon Genesis DVDs as they came out. Talk about gut-wrenching, waiting for the next Evangelion DVD to come out was making me crazy! The story was well beyond emmersive for me, I was locked in to it completely.

    Favs are:

    Single,Feature Length:
    1. Akira (duh!)
    2. Metropolis (wow, just wow)
    3. Ghost in the Shell (interesting story)
    4. Ninja Scroll (classic)
    5. Armitage: Dual-Matrix

Single, Short Length: (under 55 minutes)
    1. Blood: The Last Vampire
    2. Riding Bean (just something about it that I liked)

    MultiEpisode/DVD Sets:
    1. Neon Genesis: Evangelion
    2. Hellsing
    3. Gasaraki
    4. BubbleGum Crisis: Tokyo 2040
    5. Rurouni Kenshin (way too long, going on the first four right now. Wanna buy more, but other interests at the moment)

Lately, I have been concentrating on strengthening my anime collection. Getting the last two Hellsing this weekend (tomorrow?), might buy the Gasaraki DVD set soon, and I am looking forward to purchasing the BubbleGum Crisis DVD set soon as well. I have a disease and there is no cure (see sig below)

    Signed,
    Terminal

    Lates,
    Ryan B.

EDIT: Oh yeah, dragonball stuff just sucks the infected nipple of a dead lemur. It's like Barney, it should have been killed before it became popular. I just don't see how anyone could watch it without having the utmost extreme patience and a high tolerance for drawing out five minutes worth of storyline into an hour and a half. Anyone that I have met that enjoys watching dragonball stuff was either a spazz or the type who could turn directions to the bathroom into an adventure story (complete with tense situations, death and ressurection, and funny anecdotes that aren't really funny and are followed by some odd pose that makes no sense at all.) End of rant! Arrgghhhh

I kinda prefer the Studio Ghibli stuff.. films from Hayao Miyazaki. One of the most recent being Spirited Away. Others have been Princess Mononoke, My Neighbor Totoro... a few others too, but I like these best. The films put out by these people are awesome, always so whimsical, charming, and beautifully animated.
