    How goes it Bit-Tech?

For a while now, I've been meaning to get back into the whole anime thing - Hollyoaks and the OC really don't do it for me anymore... When I was little, I used to be into the whole Dragonball Z, Tenchi Muyo and Gundam Wing scene, but as I've grown older I seem to have lost interest...

Is anyone here into that sort of stuff?

    I'm hoping for a little re-introduction...

Back in the day there was a SKY channel called Toonami, which then went on to be called CNX. God knows what its called now... does it even exist? I wouldn't know where to start looking for a good anime... is there a website? An online community you would recommend? Maybe somewhere to buy DVDs...

Naturally I'll be looking to revisit the good old days, and maybe find something new. Nothing too hardcore - nothing too childish... could someone recommend me something? Whats Naruto like? It seems to have quite a following - but I'll need to catch up for it to make any sense...

    ;)

I'm an anime man, ebay can be good for dvds but the best thing I found was lovefilm, that way I could try out a series without spending a fortune, they had a reasonably wide selection too. Personal favourites for me have to be Neon Genesis Evangelion and cowboy bebop, for films everything I've seen by Hayao Miyazaki has been incredible.

havnt watched any anime for a while now, i always go through phases of watching it everyday, to not watching anything for months, and as teamtd11 said, Souleater is a good anime to watch, aswell as gurren lagann.

also there is some tv channel that shows like Cowboy Bebop and usually Ghost in the Shell : Stand Alone Complex (both great series), but i cant remember the name or channel number :(

    :)

I'll be sure to check out LoveFilm...

I've heard of Evangelion and Bebop - though never seen them... I might buy the first series of Bebop - it seems like my kind of thing.

Soul Eater seems like some pretty strong cheese to me :p Gurren Lagann looks pretty good as well... I'll try em both!

And whats going on with Gundam these days? I was into Wing, but Seed seems to be the big one - is anyone here in on it?

I'm looking for somewhere to sample a few episodes before I dish out the dollah... be sure to tell me that channel when you remember it beams ;)

Gurren Lagann is pretty damn good as is FLCL which i believe is by the same studio.
Paranoia Agent is a good but weird one, ive only seen afew episodes of it but its definitely worth seeing.

other than that i haven't really seen much of any others. Eureka Seven is a pretty standard giant robot with love story thrown in but its executed really well.

woo Eureka Seven, a great series, which inspired my username ;) only thing is, its 50 episodes, and some people just cant be bothered watching that much. FLCL is great aswell, and only 6 episodes.

the channel is 199 on sky, no idea whats showing at the minute, but they were showing bebop and GITS:SAC the last time i saw it

about 5 years ago I was very into dragon ball Z, the whole frieza and cell games, then stopped before they finished off perfect buu or w/e he was called... The pink guy that just absorbed everyone... Got as far as seeing goku and vegeta fuse together. Was a great series, but can't be bothered to get back into it. Used to watch a show called Shaman King about 3 - 4 years ago, and it was entertaining also, and an interesting concept.

OMG, exactly the same as me. I never really finished the fusion saga... and Shaman King was quite entertaining, though I never really found time for it... and that dominatrix girl worried me...

Really? Its showing Gospel music now... :wallbash: :p

Eureka Seven eh? Anybody know of Trigun? It looks to be similar to Cowboy Bebop...

haha yeah it shows dodgy stuff until like 11pm or midnight, not sure though as i havnt checked for a while.

as for Trigun, i would say its a definite watch

just had a look and the channel is 188, which seems to have kids shows through the day, some erotic films or something later on, and then anime from about 4am :S

Cowboy Bebop is awesome - but there is only one series. If you buy the first series, you've got everything except the film and the PS2 game.

Ghost in the Shell is also good, and I can heartily recommend Planetes.

The 720p version is FANTASTIC on a big screen. Makes that whole epic sense just that much more intense.

I've lost touch with anime these days, just don't have the time other than the regular Naruto and Bleach. I used to watch everything Production IG made.

Such a big subject, it's hard not to reel off a list of anime pages long that i'd recommend

What i would suggest however, is going along to anidb and doing a few searches on genres you like. Good way to narrow down the ridiculously huge list of anime :)

I'd highly recommend those 3 as well.

Planetes is particularly unique, as it's one of the ludicrously rare examples of anime that actually tries to follow the laws of physics :D

One thing i've noticed though is nobody has mentioned Studio Ghilbi stuff yet... :eeek:

Seriously, just go and buy anything they've done, some of my all-time favourite animation there, particularly Princess Mononoke :thumb:

Like Bindi I've also lost touch with my anime a bit, although I've not even kept up with my regular viewings.

TBH I like the shorter series best, while I do like Naruto, One Piece, Bleach, etc., 200+ episodes is just stupid IMO, drags out too long, I want to enjoy every minute, not think "Oh god another episode to watch, I hope it gets exciting this episode"

    My personal favourites are

Azumanga Daioh - Childish but very funny (26 episodes)
Cowboy Bebop - Many others recommended it and for a good reason, it is really good. Not my favourite though (26 episodes and a film)
Elfen Lied - Very cool, and a short one too, 13 episodes + an OVA
Ergo Proxy - Loved this one, quite slow but beautiful and an interesting story (23 episodes)
Full Metal Alchemist - Probably my favourite, absolutely loved this series (51 episodes + film)
Ghost in the Shell - Actually, maybe this is my favourite, I prefer the series to the films myself (I think it's 2 26 episode seasons and 3 films now?)
Samurai Champloo - 26 episode show about a samurai and a, err, other swordsman. I believe it's done by the same people as Cowboy Bebop
The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya - 14 episodes, like Azumanga, pretty childish, but I think it's great.

Naruto - Ongoing, lots of episodes, quite like it, watch it more out of habit now. This ones about ninjas
One Piece - Ongoing, again lots of episodes, only watched the first 60 or so episodes, it's about pirates, pretty awesome IMO
Bleach - Ongoing with lots of episodes. Lost track of this one, I liked it up until the fillers but I haven't bothered to get back into it.

Currently wetting my pants in anticipation of the new Full Metal Alchemist series.

I saw some shitty Gundam thing on the tube last week. That's my anime dosage. I had deserted this hobby long ago.

*Cough* first post mate , Hayao Miyazaky is the guy behind most of the Ghibli stuff including Princess Mononoke, Spirited away and Nausica of the valley of the wind.

Me too, must have spent neigh on £250 on it and then they went and brought out the platinum version :wallbash:. Have you seen rebuild of evangelion? they've split the whole thing up into four films and completely redone it, the style is the same but theyve added much better special effects and obviously spent a lot of money/time on it. The first installment showed up in the summer as a fansub, 'tis pucker.

I think i must be odd, Evangellion put me off anime for the best part of a decade when i was a teenager, i think it was when it got into the weird ending parts that put me off :p
I do quite like it now, though i still can't understand why it's constantly shown as one of the best anime series, incredibly average in my opinion ^^

Strangely enough, it was Serial experiments Lain that finally hooked me back into Anime (and that had an equally weird ending) I think i don't make sense ^^
