    Who gave MrDT mescaline?

I actually have a speech impediment that renders me unable to pronounce 'TH' so 'three' becomes 'free' and 'this' becomes 'vis'.

    And I hate it.

Everyone I know uses "Gibbon method," including several web designers. Even PNY, HP, and D-Link tech support have called it by that. Also, all the fellow techies I have talked with in person use "Gibbon." Hmm...

Obviously your problem. Compuserve was terrible, even comparable to AOL :p

Sorry, but I live all of 20 minutes from a corporate branch, and it is pronounced nigh-kiee ;)

Yeah, it does, but again, think of the poor "mortals" :D

That's how I say it most of the time, as it is difficult explaining to "mere mortal" people that I don't want them to start screaming, or that I'm talking about a book. ;)

Ok, now some of my pet peeves:

ASCII, pronounced ass-key-two (surprised the swear filter didn't pick that one up ;) )

PCMCIA, I never got a "verbalization" of this word, so I just use the letters.

    AGP, it is NOT APG!!!!!!

I don't know if you brits have this problem over there, but across the pond, this fad of inserting "like" every-other-word has sprung up among the female population, and it annoys the snot out of me. It is supposedly "valley-girl" or whatever, but I think it should be called "pain-in-the-rear."

Nothing is more annoying than 1337/ha><0r speak, however. Every 12 year old AOL lamer worth their 33k modem knows it, and also inserts choice OMG and OMFG every other word, or that can be interchanged with the swear words of your choice.

A subtle hint to you 12 year old AOL lamers, talking "l33t" makes you look extremely stupid, and broadcasts the fact that you have no brains. Consequentially, people may start "testing" to see if you even have a firewall ;) If you type normal, with good spelling and grammar, people may think you mature (OMG, WH0T @ TH0GhT), and your firewall will get less of a workout

    Just my $0.02

Edit: Post number 1776, all (US based) patriots, please rise ;)

Everyone says GIF (instead of JIF) as they assume that, because the first word is Graphics, it must be right.. however Compuserve (which at the time was well ahead in terms of some things than AOL.. who got net access first?) invented the format, so from the horses mouth, it's said JIF.
Both are correct, Microsoft refer to it as either.

A very big annoyance for me is how the americanised version of Router (in network terms) is slipping into English. I make a point of correcting any English people who call it a 'Raow-der'.

    nVidia: en-vidia or nuh-vidia?
    Matrox: May-trox or Mat-rox?

And the toshiba laptop is a por-tey-schey not a por-tezche.

Although I think that's wrong, I also think it's quite funny...
    :D

I supose our equvalent, also quite high in the annoyance stakes would have to be a multitude of "you know what I mean?" interspersed throughout a conversation. Bloody annoying!!!

I do tend to use the l33t ha><or speak when referring to such 12 yr old wannabe script kiddies, purely to be sarcastic. And the odd "teh roxx0r" here and there to feel young again... sigh...:sigh:

What annoys me is the mis-application of phrases such as: lexis, syntax, juxtaposed, claus etc and other literary terms people try to insert to look clever but in fact use them in completely the wrong context - i get a lot of it in English at school.

Talking more generally, people that misuse any jargon.

OMG, also people who can't quite get their tongue (tung ;)) round something and use fillers such as "thingy" or "the other day" (when in fact it was like last year). My mom always says "Pass me the thingy!" when in fact she is referring to the remote control! Gah! So annoying!

Legos annoys the HELL out of me. It's like an insult to my childhood. :miffed:

I often find I can't find the words I want while talking so I end up speaking really slow and in the wrong tone (because In my head I haven't figured exactly what the sentence is going to be so I don't know exactly when to raise and lower my voice which can get confusing). However I also get ahead of myself while writing. Even when spelling my name. For example I might write "Ales...." instead of "Alex" because my last name begins with an S, by the time I get to the end of the first word I'm already thinking about the next and I just write letters in completely the wrong places. It's extremely annoying although that kind of thing doesn't happen when typing - I just hit the wrong keys then. Does anyone else have this problem with writing because I think it might have something to do with dyslexia.

Also linux is not Lie-nooks. it's Li-nooks (as in Lip). But when said in the accent of the guy who created it, the I sound becomes more stretched and almost sounds like Lee-nooks.

and i hate hand writing as i do exactly the same as you . . . and usually right at the end of some form that has to be filled in too :miffed: i should really get checked for dyslexia cos several support people at school thought i was dyslexic

I was waiting for someone to bring up Linux. I used to say Lee-noox, then I started saying Lie-nux. Then I found it it doesn't matter how the hell you pronounce it cos Linus changes how he pronounces it every time he says it!! (There's even a recording somewhere floating around where you can hear him pronounce it differently 3 times in under 20 minutes, found it through Google ages ago).

I think some Americans think that each indivual peice is called a Lego. And hence collectively they are called Legos. Bloody annoying. It's not called LegosLand is it! :miffed:

Didn't we allready have the "Lego(s)" argument?? I think it just boils down to the Brits being weird. :p

Edit: It's just like the whole "Math" vs "Maths" thing.
