    No.

    Hentai just means 'pervert'.

Walk into a comic shop in Japan and shout 'Hentai!'

    Power tool: row-ter
    Network device: roo-ter

Kyocera: Kio-see-rah (The Kyo- bit comes from Kyoto, Japan)
LiteOn: Light-on (pretty obvious from the position of the capital letters!)

ASUS is pronounced A-ZEUS. Like the Greek God. That comes from the ASUS website.

I didn't think spelling was an issue here. the second spelling of proNUNciation in the sentance is incorrect, it is spelt as has been just typed(obviously without the capitalisation).

The point was that people commonly mis-proNOUNce proNUNciation as if it had the word proNOUNce in the first half of it. Which is Wrong!
Also, your right, most people are not taking the mick, as they are just plain ignorant of the proNUNciation. It just happens that on a few occasions somebody who should know better comes out with that proNUNciation, and knowing weather they are trying to be ironic is difficult, as I just want to slap them about the face with a wet fish and shout the correct proNUNciation at them.

PS Its hard to talk about the proNUNciation of the word proNUNciation without using the word proNUNciation far too many times in the one paragraph.

    Lol that is confusing.

To be honest I never really thought about how each varitiation of the word was spelt. I didn't realise that pronunciation was spelt and said differently to pronounce and pronouncing.

Anyway the point I was trying to make was that when people develop a trend of saying something, even if incorrect, then that will become the normal and soon enough correct way of saying it. For example most people don't realise that the word data is plural of datum, criteria is plural of criterion and media is plural of medium. But most people accept the misuse of these words and it as become normal to saying things such as "the media is always wrong".

Yeah i agree. Its like the English and American-English way of pronouncing schedule.

    English -- SH-edule

    US-English -- SK-edule

Its been in so many American T.V. programmes (or the American programs) that it sounds odd to hear it said correctly. Apart from my mum who shouts it at the telly every time its said.

In Norway there are people who say "suvv" instead of "ess-you-vee" when they are talking about SUVs.

I'm in a collective called TheAlbinoNine...

It has to be pronounced the American way or it doesn't rhyme...

The Al-bye-no Nine not The Al-bee-no Nine.

Right it is time to clear up the SQL issue you Guys and Gals listen now:

The language what you type in is "ess-cue-ell" (SQL).

The name of the Microsoft server/software IS "Sequal Server".

So you write SQL statements and data is stored in a Sequal Server.

People who said "Pen-tin-nim" rather than "Pen-Tee-Um" was a major pet hate of mine in the past.

right i had this total anker of a student teacher....

    he would pronounce
    ANY like ah-nee not en-eee(proper)
    MANY like mah-nee not men-eee(proper)

    and I say
    SQL see-qwul
    LINUX lie-nux (formally line-ux though)
Animé Ah-nee-may (i heard some one say ah-nim once and i thought... don't you understand the concept of the accent on the e?)

and a side note... does anyone here say ASP like ass-p you know like the impilent or weapon or whatever it is... or do you say it AY-ESS-PEE you know... normally..
