I've just finished another eeePC mod, this one is for a fellow eeePC enthusiast who lacked soldering confidence. This mod features the following -Holux GPSslim 240 Bluetooth GPS -MiniNova USB Bluetooth dongle -8GB USB Flash Drive -8-Position DIP (4switches in use) -Internal USB Port -2GB RAM Module -LightSwitch in Modem Port -4-LED keyboard lights with 'stealthing mesh'
I really like the eeePC and your work is incredible. Everything internal. Got any plans to do the bigger one? John
Nice, what are the dip switches for though? I plan to mod mine to have lots of the internal goodies going on but wanted to be able to turn them off individually with switches. To try to help save battery power mainly.
Excelent work, fairly clean too, and now you have made me want an eeePC to mod... what is all the yellow take you have put down out of interest? stop shorting components at a guess?
@jhanlon Thank you! As for the 900 series, I'm currently trying to track down a 900 owner looking for a 'mod-job'. Mainly so that I can map out the power/data lines for the benefit of the eeePC mod community. This is actually my 7th eeePC mod, all of which have been 700 series'. If anyone here owns an eeePC and is interested in having it modded out for a very reasonable fee please feel free to drop me an email. @airchie The dip is for exactly what you described, switching off the added components to conserve battery life. For a better idea of the potential of this method check out my eeePC, which contains 16 modifications. Its actually been in pieces for several weeks now waiting for me to unsolder all the work (which was done as a proof of concept) and redo it all nice and neat. @gavX Thanks, and go buy one...you'll love it. The tape is 3M's Kapton High Temp Silicone Adhesive designed for shielding electronic components. I got a 100'x1" roll off ebay for about $15USD shipped.
Man, I can't believe just how well the market took to the eeePC. There's an entire sub-culture out there just from this little bugger. Your mod is sweet, I can't think of anything else I'd need if I was on the go all the time. Excellent work!
Since I sold my modded EeePC and bought a MSI Wind, I've been searching for a similar community for the Wind, unfortunately no such one exists yet. I really hope that a similar community grows for this device too.
hey.i was just stunned about your modding but one thing got me wondering (i'm not so gifted in the hardware modding section like soldering etc) where did you find the RAM mem upgrade and how did you install it? a "step by step for morons" would be really useful. right now i have the EEEpc 4G surf (lowest model if i'm not wrong) and the battery already dies on me 5 minutes after i unplug it so i decided to beef up the system. again.sorry for the noob-atitude but i really need hints. *post edit* is there any alternative to the "stock" processor?
Nice work as always Langer. May I ask what that yellow tape is and where do you get it? Looks useful.
Check out Jesse's first eeePC mod log here. Grab a chair - it'll take a while. http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=148886 john
