Just had an email asking about a GPU upgrade.

    Current specs.
    Intel Core 2 Duo E6750
    M/B. QC Gigabyte GAP35-ds3L
    GPU. Novatech GTs250
    RAM.Crucial ballstix DDR2-2x 1GB
PSU. Colors 550 watt Gold silent.
    OS. W7 32 BIT.

He is asking about a GeForce GTX 570 as an upgrade. Any problems with that?

Borderline pointless with a dual-core CPU limiting things, and I'm not sure if I'd trust that PSU brand to supply enough juice either (and does it have PCIe plugs in sufficient quantities).

As a caveat, it does depend on what resolution they're playing at, and which games.

PSU is questionable for a 570. that and the dual-core, i recommend 560Ti.

or better yet, wait until end of month, nvidia is coming out with 560Ti 448 core (poor man's 570) but that also require more juice....

oh, and i see you got 2Gb of RAM... lol... 570 is overkill. unless you have the extra cash and want to put it for future investment. but with C2D and 2Gb of RAM, the 570 will be severly crippled.

That PSU is woefully inadequate. He needs to get rid of it. NVidia suggest a 600W PSU for a 570 and thats one from a quality manufacturer, not ColorsIT who are terrible.

He'll also be bottlenecked by that CPU and the fact he only has 2GB or RAM.

Upgrade the RAM with another 1GB stick, get a Q6600 and a new PSU and a 570 would be a great choice.

Again my thanks. I'm with you on the PSU,it seems I am constantly persuading people not to go for the cheapo PSU. Just had another Email on a proposed build which includes an i5 2500K half decent RAM ,mobo, and GPU with a £21 Ezcool 500W.
