Original story He should have played more video games, then maybe he would have actually managed to kill someone
At the gym this morning the Sky news ticker on the TV said "LATEST SCHOOL SHOOTER NAMED ASA ****". I swear that was the exact text. You would have thought they'd pick out the problem with that sentence. AH
Can't wait for the "Marylin Manson made this boy a suicidal maniac!" bandwagon to start again... It's very sad, but I don't think it's surprising so many people go postal these days.
Boy, you said it. Granted, I think he's a joke, but he's also a successful businessman. He knew what buttons to push; i.e. scare the hell out of the parents and the kids will think he's cool and buy the albums. I'll say it again, he's the modern-times' version of Alice Cooper. Dressing in black or anything of that sort (or even coining the phrase 'goth', which Manson, coincidentally, is truly not) has nothing to do with mental state. It's clothing. And makeup. If people want to dress like clowns or wear baggy pants or rubber fishing waders, that's their choice. This kid was obviously crazy. And unfortunately he acted out on it. Yet another one.
sure, marylin manson or computer games are to be blamed for the following.... /disclaimer sarcasm has been detected in my post
Another case of numerous missed opportunities to help this kid, or at least get him some where where he couldn't hurt anyone. I noticed the comments that the kid made enough threats that soon they were ignored. Why can't we balance between caution, reacting sanely to these kind of comments before everything hits the fan, and paranoia, police state schools where every tiny action sets off giant alarms everywhere?
I was right beside that school a little over a week ago for an employment test. They'll name video games and Marilyn Manson as the blaming factors but who wants to bet that a big portion of it was crappy parenting?
That's number thgree on the all purpose list of things to blame when kids do somthing bad. How about the complete lack of useful mental health service in this country, at least until you do somthing violent. This kid had a long history of mental health issues, and had been institutionilized and diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Instead of placing him in a facility whrere he could get help they sent him back to school where he got beaten by other students until he snapped. Just as there are people with pohysical illnesses, there are people with mental illnesses that need treatment. And we treat them both the same, we chuck them out on the street unless they can pay for it. Some want to blame video games or Marilyn manson or the parents, I say blame the society we live in. It's our fault too when people don't get the help they need until they snap.
You're right, Cthippo. I saw that it was a predominantly black school he was attending. I'm not immediately claiming racism at all, I'm merely stating that this was a different-styled white kid who may have dressed oddly in a black school where many who attended there may have looked unkindly on him at least in a clique kind of way. Perhaps this kid felt that every day mixed with the usual issues he was having away from school and it pushed him too far. I'm just following where the logic is swimming and speculating, as that's all we can do. It's a shame, regardless.
How about the fact that the kid's older brother was arrested the night before for shooting at his girlfriend. Also the whole family had issues of the sort. I chalk that up to bad parenting one up to a bad living environment thanks to bad parenting.
http://politics.videosift.com/video/Ax-or-Ask-bad-grammar-of-African-Americans I thought this was hilarious.
yet another school shooting, wow i never would have predicted that another one would happen.....[/sarcasm]
And who built that society? The parents of the people in charge of it and living in it. Who is building the society of tomorrow? The parents of today. Clipping the poison fruit does nothing unless you take the ax to the root.
