I remember that guy throbbi! He made videos about us all and it made the forum really popular in the search and I'm not using commas and it became a 10 page thread of us laughing at him and he made an account to try and stand up for himself and he got banned and we got done for flaming and the thread was closed. Need a breath now... Also, consumer buyers like that are the people that shop at PC world. I hate the ****ing morons. They have the intelligence of a woman from Essex. Quite frankly I hate them all.
this could be exactly what hes trying to do! Who else would hand over £520 and not know what "lapped" is in clear written on the description, he could switch it for any old chip and there's limited ways of proving that it's not the chip that was originally sent to the buyer? Who knows this buyer could have done this before, and know hes playing a very cute game like Nexxo pointed out earlier. Anyway lets wait and see
Nexxo is right - lapped 990Xs are extremely rare...in fact I've never seen a lapped 990X or 980X on ebay ever. Generally they are all boxed/retail and used by stupid people who don't overclock them (buying an "extreme" CPU and not overclocking it is beyond stupid IMO, but alas, money is cheaper than sense). Update: I have sent a message to the buyer offering him a full refund on the condition that he returns the CPU to me and it is in full working order, exactly as I sent it to him. I bet it works fine, leaving him to conjure up another BS excuse as to why it was "faulty" in his system. Thanks all for the support + advice - will try to keep this updated and hopefully this will reach a satisfactory conclusion.
Let's think about it for a minute. I have a 990X. I decide to lap it and by some "dumb move" on my part the chip dies. I know I can't RMA the chip to Intel because it's lapped. So I put it on my drawer as a reminder to never pull such "dumb moves" again. And then one day someone posts a lapped 990x for sale on ebay... If I'm an unscrupulous person; I may be tempted to pull the move I described.
It's possible, but highly unlikely/improbable (he says, fingers crossed lol ) Most ebay scammers are just petty brainless criminals who don't pre-meditate their crimes. A couple of weeks ago I bought an i7 980 which the buyer never had... that was it. 2 weeks later I got my refund. Besides, I have this guys address... I really don't think he'd kill the CPU, because I'd certainly be tempted to drive to his house and k...
That is what we would call a "long con". Most people do not have the brains nor the persistence nor the delay of gratification for that.
I'm screwed, pretty much... but I seriously doubt it. Here's how our conversation went: Me: the item MUST be retuned exactly as I sent it to you, in full working order. Him: OK no problem Like I said, he's a proper DICK!
Now i'd be tempted to report him to eBay... Buuut its not worth the effort, you can't even neg him any more. eBay is real pain in the arse for sellers.
Its the sad decline of the internet, eBay was fine back when it was full of people just selling their old stuff, now its full of scammers and retailers, its much worse. Just in the same way that the internet was a much better place when only those that knew what they were doing were using it, no junk email, no scams, no phishing, no idiots trying to regulate it.
Sad to hear about it, so why not sell on here or something where you're less likely to get idiots buying your stuff? And KidMod, Essex women aren't all that bad
hows the fight going, are you getting anywhere with it? also i thought he said its was faulty, if so how can he send it back in full working order??? this guy just keeps messing up at every turn
Things have slowed down because of the New Year and bank holiday yesterday meant no post, so it'll come tomorrow provided he sends it today because he agreed to send it via RMSD. Provided the CPU works perfectly when he returns it I'll prolly just keep it until I can get a good i7 970 or something similar which is a lot cheaper but almost identical. Will post here when it returns and let you all know how I get on with installation.
CPU's don't break easily at all, so if it isn't working when you get it back, I'm almost 100% sure it's his fault. Silly bugger.
Basically, I think some of us modders should just visit this n00b to claim back the chip that is obviously too much for him to handle:
It will be working. Like I said earlier, there's gonna be real trouble if it isn't... but I seriously doubt he'd be stupid enough to wreck a £500 CPU after giving me his address.
Unless he is an idiot. And there are an awful lot of them around. sorry that is a bit negative. Anyways I hope you get it back in perfect working order.
