I have three days after I get it back to issue a refund... if I can prove that it's working, I can tell the guy I've sent a video to ebay and that they will shortly be in touch with him to accept return of the CPU (because he was a lying pr!ck). Now that would be funny, just to see him simmer.
ebay is just more trouble than it is worth these days, too much power in hands of buyer, ppl leave negative feedback for the most pointless things. When you sell things for lot of money you need to read the conditions of both ebay and paypal, and then think like these turds, think of ways that they might try to con you, then take the pictures, videos, watever to bring up as evidence should they 'complain' I really hope this guy does not end up getting anythign ruled in his favour They've changed the way listings appear also, so negative feedback affects the position of listing in the default list. Aye, he can also contact ebay and explain to them, and it probably would get it removed.
Or that would be stupid, depending on one's point of view. Again, you would be choosing to stay engaged in his game, and frankly he is a better player. Why put up with the grief? It's not as if you haven't got better things to do with your life (don't you?). Retrieve the CPU and if it is working just issue a refund and cut this guy loose. Then sell it to someone else. Don't waste your time on time wasters.
I was being facetious - definitely going to sever all ties with him when I get the CPU back and it's in my rig. CPU just arrived this minute and I'm going to install it straight away. Will update promptly. EDIT: the 990X is absolutely fine, working like a charm at stock speed. I think the guy was scared to try it because it had been lapped, so made up a BS excuse about it not working so that he would be assured of a refund. Oh well, the saga ends - at least now the only dick I have to worry about is the one I was born with.
What a tool.. At least you can still sell it again.. maybe this time with an explanation of what lapping is..
On the up side, you have his address & email right?- time to sign him up to various dubious websites & online shopping stores...
Alternatively just send him a box with a brick in it and no return address. He'll have to pay the postage + fine to get it and then all he has is a brick.
Lol, thanks chaps. TBH if he goes on behaving like that as a trader he won't have much of a bright future. And I'll be keeping the CPU I think... I really shouldn't have sold it because it's a proper beauty. In the meantime, the issue of feedback remains. Having fully refunded his payment I've drawn up a forecast a la David Thorne
Been reading this over the holiday season. At least you got the CPU back in working order and things could be worse. Let us know what feed back he gives you. This story has been better than the Eastenders christmas day special.
Glad you got it back, and running in one piece! Temps are looking very low on it. I have left you some settings to try in the geekbench thread, so come and knock me off the top spot for the Gulftown!
He's NOT going to leave negative feedback! Well blow me frickin' down, Olive! Turns out today is a good day after all!
Probably knew he was in the wrong. A nub with too much money and without any experience of high end chips.
I wouldn't have worried too much if he did; some jerk-off on ebay left me negative feedback saying 'item not arrived' a couple days ago because the item I sent him got returned (sticker from royalmail saying 'recipient has gone away' on the package ). I sent photographic proof that I did indeed try to send the item & that it was returned, and ebay removed his negative feedback for me. You just have to click 'leave feedback' > 'report an issue', then select an option under 'buyer leaves negative feedback in an effort to damage your feedback rating' or something like that, then contact customer support via email & provide evidence to support your claim that the buyer is a lying retard and the item was never damaged or faulty ( screen shots etc ).
The guy probably wasn't trying to be malicious, I guess they just got scared about the lapping thing and tryed everything to get their money back. It's not so easy to tell if they have got what they paid for if the serial number has been polished off, maybe they just realised that on delivery. Good that it got sorted anyway without too much hardship on either end. Who paid the postage out of interest?
I paid postage in the first instance and he paid return postage voluntarily. I would not have been happy to pay return postage since he was returning an unwanted item rather than a faulty item.
