I know these never make a difference, but I'd like to see how many people would be interested in signing the Adobe and Macromedia for Linux petition.

I am also thinking of creating a website devoted to getting adobe on linux, because after a month of running Ubuntu just fine, and using the GIMP, as a professional web developer, I have to go back to Photoshop CS/CS2. (meaning, I don't have the time to spend doing a 10 second job with 60 seconds worth of scripts)

I'm really hoping that if adobe ever went to linux, other developers would be encouraged to work on the GIMP to be more industry standard, rather than hobbiest. (I know GIMP enthusiasts think it is professional now, but that's because most of the developers I've talked with on the mailing lists haven't used photoshop since version 5.5 or before)

So, if you would, please sign the petition and hopefully show Adobe that the linux community is interested in their products.

I'm a PHP develeoper and The Gimp suites me, but I do very little design work at work - that's what the content & design team are paid to do. As professionals they all use Windows and Photoshop as it is the best tool for the job (Photoshop that is, not necessarily Windows ;) )

Having just scanned down the product list on Macromedia's website offer, I fail to see anything that I want.

I would agree with this...but I fear that we won't have commercial software step too far into the ring of what is public license OS. So, you're dancing with the devil here...either Adobe releases its code to be looked at any way that someone wants (because linux offers a lot more options for viewing how things execute), or they push a branch of linux to be not linux anymore. Neither is a good option. In a perfect world, Adobe would just say "OUR software is not public domain" but then they can't include any part of public domain software in it...a hard sell if you want them to just convert over to Linux instead of rewrite everything from the ground up.

And as for Macromedia, what on earth do you use aside from flash? Please tell me not dreamweaver.

A Shockwave for Linux plugin would be slightly useful.

Seems odd that they've done Flash, but not Shockwave.

Aside from that.. meh. I'm getting used to the GIMP, and if you really want a WYSIWYG HTML editor in Linux, I gather that Nvu works quite well.
