Hello, I'm going to be purchasing an Antec 300 case soon. While other cases I've looked at, such as the Corsair Obsidian 600 and 800 have some nifty features such as grommets for easier cable management and hot swappable drive bays, I chose the Antec 300 because of the great reviews it's gotten with regard to cooling and it suits what I'm looking for aesthetically. I'm planning on cutting out holes to fit grommets from the Corsair Obsidian series ( which hopefully won't be entirely covered up by the mobo I'm looking at GIGABYTE GA-Z68P-DS3 ), cutting a hole in the bottom for better PSU airflow, and painting all grey metal parts of the case black. While these I believe will vastly improve the Antec case, I still want to do a little more, specifically I want to replace the 3.5" HHD bays with hot swappable drive bays like those found in ( again ) the Corsair Obsidian 650D/600T. Is the drive bay replacement feasible? Also, what part should I be looking for to do that, more specifically should I be looking for drive cages or some sort or some type of RAID-like internal enclosure ( I'm not going to be doing RAID, I'm just using it as an example of the type of internal enclosure I'm referring to ). If you pay close attention to the link for the Obsidian 650D/600T you'll see I don't mean front panel hot swappable bays, because I want to keep the Antec 300 intake fans in that spot, I mean hot swap bays that can be accessed if you open the cases side panel. Thanks for any info you guys might be able to provide. ( Note: Not sure if it makes a difference but I intend of putting a 560 ti GPU in case as well )
You can buy ready made drive cages with the required hot-swap board & controller built in, or you can buy just the board and make/ modify your own cage arrangement- seen several custom builds employ those items. I don't have much more experience than that, but if you type 'hot swap drive bay' into google, that'll keep you busy for a while looking at options
For sure. I just ordered the Corsair drive cage ( didn't even think that they'd be selling it as a computer accessory ), and now I'm just looking for any tutorials/videos that might help with giving me a clue as to how to install it facing the side panel ( like in the Obsidian 650D/600T ).
