Hey guys i note that on the May PC builds the Antec High Current Pro PSU seems to be included in almost everybuild. As such I am most likely going to put one in mine. As I will be running 2 X GTX 670's in SLI I have plumped for the Antec HCP 850w Modular. http://www.scan.co.uk/products/850w...-gold-sli-crossfire-eps-12v-quiet-fan-atx-v23 Is there any difference between modular and non modular? Is this a reasonable choice? It doesnt state on the May build specs whether it is modular or non modular and I have never used a modular but I like the idea of the neatness it would provide for my build.
Non modular power supplies have all the components hard-wired in so that you either have to use a cable or find a place in your case to hide it. Modular means that you can choose which cables to use and which not to and add/remove them as is your wont. That particular PSU is semi-modular (although it seems if a PSU has any kind of modularity, it is called "modular"). On the Antec HCP 850W, the 20+4 Pin and the 4+4 Pin for the motherboard, as well as a pair of 6+2 pins are hard-wired whereas you have the choice to add any other cables you need. Personally, I prefer modular power supplies, but they do command a small premium. If you have enough space to hide the unnecessary cables, then a non modular power supply isn't bad either.
Thanks for the help mate. Was ideally wanting fully modular as don't mind paying for it. Is there any PSU that is better than the Antec HCP series or are they pretty much the top drawer of PSU's?
Corsair AX 850W Seasonic X-850 Silverstone Strider Gold Evolution 850W They aren't really that much, if at all, better than the HCP but they are fully modular.
