Hi, My mum has just bought herself a new macbook pro and surprise surprise there are popups and 'Your IP has just been selected...' messages everywhere. I am not 100% sure that this problem is virus related but better safe than sorry. However, looking online for a recommended software appears to be pointless, as question threads rapidly turn into "Mac's don't get viruses' circle jerks. So, I turn to my smarter peers to ask: Does anyone know a good AV and spyware removal tool for macs? Thanks, VP
Your mum should've bought a Mac back in 2011. It is said they were personally blessed by Steve Jobs prior to shipping. Well, joking aside, have a look at Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Mac (not free, but there's a trial version) or Avira Free Mac Security.
these guys http://www.sophos.com/en-us/products/free-tools/sophos-antivirus-for-mac-home-edition.aspx have a free edition for home use. It's what i use both at home and at work.
Avast do a free version of their A/V for OS X. I've been using/recommending Avast since 2007 and have never had a complaint (my brother even begged me to install it after his laptop succumbed to annoying malware) so I wouldn't have any hesitation in recommending the Mac version.
