My subscription to Kaspersky 2010 is expiring soon, and I was wondering whether to renew the subscription or to switch to another antivirus. Since this forum is usually really helpful I decided to come here for advice . What do you guys think I should do? Renew Kaspersky or go to a different AV?
I didn't bother renewing mine, I just use MSE now. It was only after uninstalling Kaspersky that I realised how much of a system hog it was.
I used to use Kaspersky and it was pretty good. That said. I use Avast now (the free edition) and have not had any problems in 3 years its on every pc in my house.
Try ESET NOD32. Don't bother with the security suite, though. It's a waste of money. Personally, I'm not too keen on either Avast or MSE. Granted, they're free, but they don't score particularly high with VirusBulletin. Avast has 40 successes and 23 failures (latest in December 2008), while MSE, being a new player, has 3 successes and 1 failure (April 2010). NOD32 has 66 successes and 3 failures (latest in April 2002). That might not count in everyone's book, but it does in mine.
Got MSE on my Vista machine, seems happy at the moment, here on the 7 PC my Avira Middle (Premium) Suite's run out tonight, might just go back to the free version of the same thing for the moment. [EDIT] Forget my chatter, they dropped the price to €14, cha-ching! I'll go another year...
Avast is very good. I used to use AVG until I realised how much RAM it was hogging. Switched to Avast and wouldn't switch back tbh - does the job, uses minimal resources and has a gaming mode to shut it up Certainly wouldn't pay for an Antivirus - never have and never will. Just no need when there are so many free alternatives which do exactly the same thing.
Does norton still slow down the computer as much? I used to use it but later versions slowed my drive speeds right down.
Thanks guys, Right now I'm thinking along these lines: Going with a free one I'd use MSE. Going with a premium package, I'd go with either Kaspersky AV 2011, BitDefender AV 2011, or ESET NOD32. (I survive just fine w/o a firewall so I won't be going to internet security on either one). Since the free path has been set I'd like to concentrate on narrowing down the choices of premium security packages then decide whether I want to pay money or go with MSE. In future arguments for or against Kaspersky, BitDefender, or ESET please state why you hold your position .
Even though I've paid out the £12.39 that Antivir Premium costs in its sale, out of the three you've listed, BitDefender was the only one that picked up a particularly nasty BIOS-killing trojan I had which managed to shut down whatever firewall I had installed and let in other malware that went on to kill two old mobos. This is a few years back now but not even good old Free Antivir which stopped everything else dead in its tracks found that one before the damage was done. So it provided cover when both Avast and Antivir failed. You've tried Kaspersky so they've had their go. It's very close as I know ESET is also damn good. Nothing to stop you going with the 30-day trials for both of them and making up your mind at the end of Feb.
Amazing!!! But there is an easy way to remove a computer virus, which is install a security software in your pc, such as tuneup360 and Norton system
I'd recommend Avast free + Comodo Fwl installed with Max Proactive defence. The proactive defence is kinda like MS UAC but it actually works... And get Malwarebytes if you like.I recently installed it on my pc that ive been using Avast on and couldn't find any infections but a laptop from someone who basically downloaded a Trojan that invited friends it found stuff that avast didn't.
