So, after waiting for what seems like forever, I have ordered the parts for my first rig.
I should be screaming from the rooftops in happiness. Instead, I have an all too familiar feeling - anxiety.

Is this normal? I'm not going to lie to you guys, I'm 16, and it's pretty much all my life savings put into this system, and I've worked hard for it.
So, is it just me who gets this feeling?:sigh:

Why not post what you have bought and see what the general opinion is.

Also if you have ordered online you will have distance selling rights, which allows you to return goods and get a full refund.

    I wouldn't worry though.

I had a thread in Hardware where some fellows helped me out picking out components.
I guess if there should be a faulty part or something, I ordered my parts from CCL, so I could RMA it in person since they're not too far from me. :p

I guess it's just the whole idea of building it, it's very... foreboding.

That, and my wallet is now empty. ;)

I don't so much now but yeah, back when I was 16 (maybe upto being 20yo or so) I was always funny in the wait up till getting the hardware in and working. Guess now with more experience with IT, more experience dealing with stores etc I don't worry so much.

For me it was always getting past the first POST screen, once you know its booting its like a weight lifted lol

I wouldn't worry about it, first couple of times I bought things I got a bit nervous.
Now doesn't bother me at all, boredom is the biggest killer :p

Just wait till you push the power button and nothing happens... (turns out you actually need to connect up the power button :D)

I feel like this with every time i do an assembly

As you say should feel great, but i tend to think of all the bad things that can happen.

If the mobo is faulty, can i get time off work to sort out returning it, will the retailer be a pain and try to mess me about getting rmas etc.

i usually have my fingers crossed every time i go to hit the power button on every new build.

Is the upgrade worth the hasstle and so on, im holding onto my x58 till a worthy upgrade is available.

So in short, you will feel like all of us on here i think.

Aslong as all the bits are functional the assembly part is really really really simple.

I tend not to call them builds as they are more just a case of assembling the parts that have already been built, so all should be fine.

Now ive made you feel worse, i hope all goes to plan.

It's normal mate, when I built my 1st PC at the age of 13, I was so afraid that I'd blow it up - 2yrs later, it's still near perfect (just a done in GPU fan and a case fan.

Built my first rig not too long ago! Exact same feeling after buying, but two months on now, I'm loving every minute!

Yeah, I always have power button anxiety on a new build.

Have felt sick in my stomach when i've pressed the power button and nothing has happened. 99 times out of 100 it's usually something stupid like I've forgot to turn the electric socket on, LOL.

Anxiety during the build is normal so you're just like most people. You'll enjoy it most when you have it up and running.

Used to get this to start with - it's one of those things the more you do it the easier it gets. Or in my case anyway. As long as you've done some research into what you need (which you have) and bought it from somewhere that actually exists (which you have) it's usually fine.

Have to say I may be unlike most people here, these days it doesn't fuss me, I'll research until I'm happy and then go (e)shopping and enjoy it!

It's not just you at all. I'm 15 and my savings also go to things like this. With every purchase, no matter how small, I can spend days, even weeks literally arguing with myself about whether it's a good purchase. And, even after all this, I still feel regret every time.

I used to be really happy... Now that I already have all the PC-gear I'd ever need, it's really difficult to really get excited!

What parts are you assembling out of curiosity.

If you are fitting waterblocks and that sort of think, then i deffo would recommend testing in its raw form before changing heatsinks etc.

Also remeber its not a race to put it together and im sure if you have any issues youl get help on here.

Worst case scenario, you can always take to a pc shop to put together for you if you really get stuck (although i grimace at doing this)

i5 3450, XFX Radeon 7850, 8GB Corsair Vengeance RAM, 1TB WD Caviar Black, Gigabyte B75-D3V, Corsair CX600 PSU, and a Sony 7280S disc drive. :)

I know some might be hesitant on the B75, but I have no interest in RAIDing, SSDs or OCing. :p

But I don't want to go too OT, heh, this isn't the Hardware forum.

What I usually do once the parts arrive is build up everything (except the GPU) WITHOUT the case. This gives me peace of mind that the main parts work before the project is started, and saves you racking your brain too much if something doesn't work once its completely built.
