Do we have anybody on here that could possibly help me, I've downloaded audacity but I'm not 100% sure what I'm doing. Basically I had a phone call with somebody which I recorded (not for use in a legal sense) but because it wasn't on speaker phone it's quite hard to make out what was said from the other person, is there anybody on here that could try and clear up the audio for me to make it a little more legible for me? I would greatly appreciate it! It's an *amr file, I've since amended the recording app to turn my phone to speaker phone for every call just incase.
It won't do magic, but speaking as someone who records a lot of calls... Step The First: Find a 'silent' bit of the conversation (when neither of you are talking) in the waveform display and highlight it with the mouse. Step The Second: Effect menu, Noise Reduction, click Get Noise Profile. Step The Third: Deselect the silent bit. Step The Fourth: Effect menu, Noise Reduction, run the effect. You'll immediately see the noise floor drop. Step The Fifth: Effect menu, Compressor. Step The Sixth: Effect menu, Amplify (if Compressor didn't do it enough already). That's yer lot, and as good as the call is going to get without effort. You can do Steps 1-4 again if there's still noise, but for each time you run it the voices will become more and more flat and robotic.
