Any DJs here?? I was just wondering, u guys use CDs and MDs now and a few still on vinal - but why doesnt any one use MP3? - wouldent it just be easyer to have a HDD based system??
Being a battle DJ I use vinyl cos it's the best to scratch with... Im looking at building a mp3 mixing box at some point, cos my CD collection is a little to large to be carting around.
Copy vinyl to MP3 here, run out to a Vestax PCV-002 mixer from the PC using PCDJ, then to a powered set of speakers. Not the best sounding setup, but it definitely rocks. Mostly just parties for friends and the like, nothing serious. It's a fun hobby, but I definitely don't have the time to put into it to go fulltime. Mixing with MP3s is fun, but it does take the fun out of using 2 turntables.
yeah - im not hugely into it (not enough cash/time) - but from our 6th form socials, most poeple have 1 or 2 CD player(s) and a MD with about 80MDs and 400-600CDs!!! so thats like three HUGE Boxes of Tune!!!
Moi. 2X Technics 1210's, Vestax PCV-175 (bought it 2 days ago), some Technics headphones and some naff amp/speakers. As you guessed im a vinyl man, the whole promo, limited press' thing that comes with vinyl is cool, you can make a bit of profit from your hobby. Plus i like the control i have with vinyl, i dont like relying on electronics too much. Need to sell my old Gemini PS626Pro2 mixer now P.s. I spin trance (before you say it, no, not Ian van dahl, scooter etc), bit of DnB/TnB and House.
Can't beat vinyl for that hands-on approach to DJing in my opinion - I do however, have a little play around with mpeg3 now and then - I use a bit of free software called DJS (DeeJaySystem) - it's not to bad I guess.
I did a little DJing with computer software, but as of now it's just a PC plugged into a reciever. Soon I want to get a mixer and try several other types of media.
When it comes to djing, vinyl is the only way to go Daily we must fight a inner battle to separate the GEEK and the DJ, keeping the CDs in our modded computers CD-ROM, not trying to do such a horrible thing as try to DJ with them. Follow the vinyl commandments!
Vinyl = win , specially on 1210's just got a pair of gemini decks meself and a kam bpm junior mixer. Theres a thing called Fianl Scratch , is a mp3/vinyl based system it pwns copmpletely. It uses vynil ont eh decks for timing but teh mp3 track from the computer. go here : http://www.breakbeat.co.uk and look for the video; 'introduction to final scratch' for a demo video by DJ Craze. video server down atm though.
I was lucky enough to goto the DMC afterparty last year and got to see Craze doing a live Drum&Bass set... D&B with live scratching! And again Certainly a master in the fine turntabilist art!
im a mobile dj and use cd's as there easyer to carry round and find stuff (i can do vinyl but hardly ever)ive started to use a laptop (with docking station that has pci slot for a good sound card) ive got a 2 cd palyer thing with control 8 channel mixer , 31 chan eq , crossover , 3 amps (one for high , low , sub) , 2 800w 12" speakers , 15" sub , and loads of lighting effects and nearly all fits in the back of my m8's dad's ford estate , as long as im driving aswell
Also, some clubs, (If you want to DJ in clubs) such as Room 69 @ The Rainforest, want to make sure that you actually own the music... They request CD cases to prove that you have bought the songs.
yeah i do well, 1st off, my creds http://www.DJShauk.com lotsa free music for ya. 2nd off. Final scratch is the way to go for your mp3 to vinyl emulation.. sorry I cant be more specific than that, just that I dont have FS
