I think without more info & a network diagram we can't assume anything. The thing going round my head at the moment is: Are there local DC's at each site?
Under connection settings in advance outlook over https is ticked. However every time it is removed it resets itself and goes back to getting used. It's not ment to be for the desktops. Just the laptops out in the field. Today I didn't get any issues. Last night they removed the tunnel from poole and placed it directly on the network. Thanks for the offer Simon.I may have to take u up on that. Sent from my HTC Desire HD A9191 using Tapatalk 2
One domain controller wich all sites authenticate against. However there are 6 servers used across the country. I will post the network schematics for the server room up when get to office tomorrow Sent from my HTC Desire HD A9191 using Tapatalk 2
here is the main server room, im sorting the rest of the offices out. yesterday seemed ok. maybe losing one of the tunnels helped.
If you've only got 1 DC then I think we may well have our problem (well one of them). It'll be worth checking your sites & subnets in AD to make sure it's all correct (with only 1 DC you should only have 1 site), as everything thinks it's on the same site & it looks to be connected via ADSL you may well be getting timeouts on AD & DNS queries which is causing your issues. Here's what I'd say you need to plan to do in the near future: Put a DC on any site with more than 3 people on it. Make it a GC & DNS server. Get another server for the main site & migrate Exchange to it then remove exchange from the existing DC. This should speed up resolution on site (improving login times etc) and give you a bit of redundancy should a server have an issue.
Ive just uplifted a spare server from southampton thats not used, maybe we can look at doing this. I speak to Tech4
What level of support do you get from tech4? I mean - there must be certain sla's that they clearly aren't maintaining. There is nothing really wrong with your network, its just underprovisioned, which I guess in itself is a problem. You should speak to tech4 and suggest that they look at it again as its not acceptable that your users have to suffer with a network that doesnt deliver them their emails.
I think I know tech4. I think they bought the little PC repair shop near my holiday home in Weymouth. I'd seriously look at that contract you have with them again as they're obviously not very good at what they do.
Ahh. You said Network Management Team which would imply to me they were internal Network Monkeys not outsourced consultants.
Nope they the ones that Im ment to be replacing! However ive had to fend for myself and they have not told me hardly anything so ive had to work it all out.
ah the old un-helpful handover, nice. You should press them for some documentation, they should have at least some somewhere.
Nothing AT ALL has been documentated! I have had to start from scratch. I have asset tagged everything and profile all of the machines across all of the sites. Only the MD of the IT company knows how it all works, and its all in his head. The biggest issue is that the network was designed with only to one building in mind, and the company has expanded to 7 offices in the last 6yrs and its all just been bolted on, rather then scaled correctly.,
Unfortunately there are a lot of guys about that don't document anything. Where I work we document everything, almost to an anal degree, but it means I can pick up my bosses clients and he can pick up mine - makes life easier! Says alot about tech4. I took a client off "an it company" recently and went through much the same nonsense - though I think they were just playing hard ball and actually did have documentation.
See if you can dig up a contract that your company had with tech4 - see what they are obliged to provide under the terms of the contract, and if necessary wave it under their noses to remind them what they should be giving you (look in particular for KPIs and exit requirements).
